Current Events > At what point can we identify someone as Alt Right?

I tried to put them in order from, based on my observations, least-alt-right to most-alt-right, but some were hard to place on a spectrum.

Ascribes to identitarian politics with a focus on race and ethnicity. Communicates and exists primarily within online spaces. Policy platform and interests are an inverse of what would loosely be described as "progressive" politics - essentially identitarian left stances - two sides of the same coin.

Religion/Economics/Foreign policy issues largely get ignored in favour of a slavish devotion to identity politics.

The alt-right and far left are really just two sides of the same coin. I mean both of them are obsessed with race and identity.

It's not always a line crossed, per se. That being said, I think bigotry and anti-intellectualism are the two biggest signs.

I think once you start agreeing with all things Trump you're in the danger zone. If you honestly cannot think of any significant criticism of Trump or some of his supporters and you believe their agenda is ultimately beneficial to the country, you may still be a decent human being, but intellectually, politically you're a puppet being co-opted by the movement. Even though you may not know everything that entails, sadly you're alt-right.

To be fair, the same goes for alt-left (not so much about Trump, he's an idiot, but about some of the views of some of his supporters). Neither extreme right nor extreme left are healthy, rational stances.

I would legitimately put "Agrees with all things trump" at the bottom of the list. At the minimum, it's far worse than sometimes telling a racist joke.

Didnt read the poll options, but basically almost never since its a dated term; the only reason it gained traction in the first place was because it was a self-applied label for a movement that was largely prevalent at the time but essentially dead now.

No. Far-right conservatism is just as prevalent in the US now as it was in 2016, but the alt-right itself is basically dead with how much mainstream conservatism has moved the right following Trumps election. Nobody identifies as alt-right anymore.

I feel like a lot of the people who voted for that option THINK they were joking. But although I've never specifically been called Alt Right on here, I was told by several users the other day that I'm not a liberal because I was defending a famous conservative commentator when people were saying she is pro-Hitler.

Joe Rogan and Dave Chappelle are both clearly liberals, yet people on this board call them Alt Right. So even the "joke" poll results probably reflect the opinions of this board more than you think.

If they either go to or support White Nationalism online, or say "they have a point you know" not out of ignorance of the bigger picture, but because you want to be on that side.

I always thought it was just right wing conspiracy buffs; they believe alternative news.

But now it seems to be used as a perjorative to trash anyone that is right of center.

while the alt-right indulges in and circulates alternative news, and believes in conspiracy theories, the label does not explicitly refer to that

there are right wingers with such an inclination that wouldn't be considered alt-right - garden variety boomercons circulating and consuming qanon drivel on facebook and twitter, for instance

i should note, however, that there's an overlap, but their sources differ dramatically (aside from screencaps of posts from 8chan with respect to qanon conspiracy theorists)
