I've tried beer before and never liked it.

Today I decided to give it another try. I drank a bottle of Rolling Rock and it simply tastes lighter than other beers I had (Corona, Pacifico, Tecate). I can't really tell the difference.

I guess beer isn't for me. I don't like the bitter taste of it.

I'll stick with my sweet beverages like Mike's Hard Lemonade.

Do you know if you're a super-taster?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertaster

I'm pretty sure I am, and that it makes pretty much any beer with more than minimal hops too bitter for me to really enjoy the taste. Which is why I tend to just stick to bourbon instead.

I like some beers but overall i am not a beer person. My go to is yeungling. Available everywhere around here and a step or two above bud, miller and Coors. But I've had other styles. IPA, stout etc. But beer ain't for me. I've had cheap. I've had fancy. Overall meh to me.

Not knocking people for their preferences however. Anybody can enjoy what they want. Ill stick to whiskies and other spirits

I tried the test once. It made me gag. Overwhelming bitter taste. I gave a test strip to someone else and they didn't taste anything. So I guess I am one. I don't like beer either.

Stop drinking light beers and try a stout or a porter or something. They're sweeter with flavor profiles closer to coffee and chocolate

I didn't like beer until after I tried a crapload of things that a lot of people aren't even aware of. I especially fell in love with oatmeal stouts, lambics, and hefeweizen. After that I finally started liking regular ass American lager.

But yeah, you are under no obligation to like beer. Ever.

Have any hard cider yet? That's my favorite among the sweet beer alternatives.

So you've had a bunch of lagers that you didn't like and decided you don't like beer? That's like hating a few tequilas and deciding that liquor isn't for you.

Now, as you prefer sweet alcoholic beverages, I've a few beer suggestions that you might enjoy. (A lot of these are import beers, so they tend to be more expensive.)
- Wheat beers. Lighter in flavor than even a lager, they're usually flavored with hints of citrus or, in the case of Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc Fruits Rouge, rapsberry and elderberry. I'd personally suggest Belgian Moon or the aforementioned Fruits Rouge.
- Radlers. They're usually half pilsner or wheat beer, and half lemon soda, although other varieties exist, like orange, lime, or peach.
- Bud Light Apple. Even though I generally dislike Bud Light, this thing has enough apple flavor that it actually tastes like something besides slightly bitter water.
- Frli. It's a Belgian strawberry beer brewed with 30% strawberry juice.

Or you can ignore all this and stick to mixed drinks and coolers. Totally up to you.

Salt helps remove the bitterness but like you id just rather drink a sugary drink. I'm more a 4 loko guy though cause its more bang (how drunk it gets you) for the buck.

I was the same for a while. Tasted a while bunch of different types of beer until one day I found I enjoyed certain beers. Dos Equis lager is by far my favorite right now. Make sure it is cold and with a lime. But yeah, never feel like you need to drink beer. I'm mostly a tequila, or mixed drinks kinda guy myself.

Never heard of it. But I gave up on beer a long time ago. American beer is too weak for me. Im a slow drinker so I have to force myself to drink faster if i hope to feel anything. 4 lokos i drink at my leisure and by the time im half way through my second tallboy im feeling good.

There are plenty of American beers that are completely unlike the shitty beer that has dominated the market for far too long.

Also 4lokos is gross.

I know nothing about beers. I don't know the difference between lager, pilsner, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them once I get rid of the Rolling Rock and when I'm out of Mike's Hard Lemonade.

I don't mind spending more money as long as I like it.

I just dont want to take a risk buying bitter tasting beer because it will be a waste of money.

Its about the weakness. If taste is all that mattered I can live with miller. Doesnt taste amazing but ita tolerable.

4 loko has a lot of flavors. Some are indeed gross what I drink is not.

As somebody whose alcohol consumption is something like 95% beer, you just have to keep trying different varieties. And not mainstream shitty ones like Corona or Budweiser. And dont be afraid to pay up for premium beers. Hopefully you have some specialty alcohol outlet store nearby with a lot of choices. I love beer but Ill still call out shitty ones without a problem.

Sticking with the mass produced beers when we're well into a beer renaissance isnt doing you any favors.

Even American style lagers by microbreweries are much smoother and fuller flavored it's night and day. Plus they generally might have some higher abv offerings.

Try to find some home state offerings and try different varieties they make.

I'd have felt the same way as you with those initial choices.

Nah I'm good with my 4 lokos, natty gravity rush watermelon, whatever the 211 fruit drinks are called, mikes harder lemonade/cranberry, and maybe a redds wicked apple.(thats my least favorite of those though) Why waste money trying new shit when I already have several options on things I like. Everything I mentioned is 8% at a minimum with the lokos being 14% and all of them on the cheap side. My rule of thumb is to try and not spend much more than 6 bucks to get drunk.

"Beer" is such a broad term. Although if you said beer to me I would assume you mean Ale. I'm not a fan of that. Lager on the other hand, cider or basically most alcoholic beverages I can get behind.
