Me: O_o ...yes?
Customer: So you can sell alcohol now, right?
Me: ...no. The cutoff is 1am. It's currently 3am. We can start selling again at 5:30.
Customer: But I just told you it's Wednesday!
Me: I'm not sure what your point is. The cutoff is always 1am. 7 days a week.
Customer: Well that's bullshit.
Me: I'm sorry? I don't know what to tell you. We can't sell alcohol right now. Is there anything else you need?
Customer: *leaves case of beer on counter and stomps out*

So does anybody have any idea why this person thought the fact that it's Wednesday made a difference? I'm so confused right now. O_o

Not just get myself fired. The store can lose their liquor license, so no alcohol sales at all. And likely would go out of business as a result, making every employee lose their jobs.

It's tough to say, some alcoholics drink until they run out, get behind the wheel and find more regardless of what hour it is

Some people don't get off work until real late and want a beer after their shift

Others can be entirely ignorant to the laws in the area

ha, i remember the confusion about how night shifts are scheduled. for a while i was doing overnight shifts and evening shifts in the same weeks (sometimes a morning shift or two mixed in... fuck y'all).
management couldn't figure it out either. sometimes they'd schedule me overlapping shifts lol.

Thankfully I only work nights, and it's always 6 nights a week, so my boss doesn't have any troubles with the scheduling. Honestly, I literally can't remember the last time I actually looked at the schedule in the back room. It's always the same for me, so I just show up and assume they're expecting me to be here.

The other stuff you find ways of coping with. I pretty much set every single appointment/meeting/get-together/etc in my phone's calendar just to make sure I don't forget which day it is and miss it.

I visited South Carolina once and the the cutoff there is 7pm. It was a 4lokos night and those are nights that are the saddest of faces

In Atlanta it was midnight, and no Sunday sales at all. In TN where I am now, it's 2am and as of last year, Sunday sales are permitted, but cut off at 8pm.

The bartenders technically have an obligation to stop serving someone who is too inebriated, hence the distinction between "selling" and "serving" in terms of cutoff times. Basically, if someone opens the container for you, it has been "served." If the container remains sealed, it has been "sold."

Of course, most bartenders won't actually turn down a drink order unless the person is being belligerent, but that's the premise of it at least.
