I got 20 points for finishing 7th. I don't remember how long it took me last night, but it seemed to go pretty quickly. I don't really even know what I'm doing strategy-wise and usually just leave the thing set to "attackers" or whatever.

Edit: Just played one round, got 30th and received 15 points. Including the time it took for the match to start, the whole thing took 5 minutes.

If you like Tetris, it's fine, but frustrating because of the skill ceiling and the RNG. Like if you don't master T-Spins you will never win a game.

I don't know why you'd expect to win consistently when there's 99 players in each game. My expected wins should be 5, but I have more than 7 times that.

I have 800 matches and 3 wins. lol

but I know for sure a decent percentage of those matches were either dropped or disconnects

but anyways, I don't even have a dozen T spins. A few mini t spins but those were on accident

T spins are so beyond situational, you just pull them out of your ass when you're desperate. You don't strategize around them or anything

this is not a T-Spin



this is a T-Spin... Triple... just the first turn itself is a basic T-Spin that can be applied in a bunch of different ways

I played 1 game and got 6th which only gave 20 points. I think top 50 gets you 10 points so I would just grind that out since it usually is pretty fast to 50th vs getting to 10th. Times up now though so whatever. The theme kinda sucked anyways.

Also I don't know t spins (yet) and I haven't ever won. 77 games ever and I've only gotten top 10 like... 10 times? Average 39th. This game has made me like 25x better at Tetris though.

Actually Tetris Effect has improved my Tetris much more since it's a more direct and focused training. Especially the extra modes like Sprint and Purify.

The most consistent top players build around setting up T-spins because of how efficiently they kill other players (and save yourself). That's why the game has such a big learning curve to be elite, because most casual Tetris players never learned to build setups for T-spins, but it's actually the optimal strategy in this. There are plenty of video tutorials on how to do it consistently.

they also added more icons to earn, sort of like an achievement system

I tried Invictus this morning and got absolutely bodied. First time I've ever placed in the bottom ten.

I was thrown off by the speed, I thought we were just playing with more experienced players, I didn't know other things were changed

I got 30th and 13th in my two tries, but never KO'd anyone. I threw out some pretty good garbage in my second game, too, but I guess it wasn't enough to get anybody.

I switched over to regular Tetris 99 to get my daily KO's and won, and didn't feel like I even brought my A game, so it does appear that this has successfully given newer players more of a chance to compete.

my first try in Invictus, I was immediately targeted by what ended up being 8 players

so i played super conservative and finished top 50 with 4 KO's, satisfied with just sending small lines of garbage to a bunch of peope

Really liking invictus so far, especially with the faster speed. Played twice: the first time I made it to the top 10 but only had two badges when I got there and got destroyed shortly after, getting 9th. Second game I made it there with the full four badges and managed to get second after a brutal misplacement.
