I stopped watching after the episode parodying 24. At that point I felt pretty sure it was played out to my tastes.

What... is even the context for this what the fuck. I don't remember any Simpsons episode where they go for more than a minute without focusing on one of the core characters.

Literally the only clever thing in the whole skit was the protestor's sign saying "This sign is the most reading you've done in years".

There's a difference between making humor with social commentary, and making social commentary with humor.

Two Bad Neighbors wasn't about making fun of George Bush Sr. for being a bad President, or having bad policies. The humor was derived from Bush Sr. as a person, portraying him as crotchety and uptight - a perfect target for Bart and Homer and emphasized by the references it makes to Dennis the Menace. It worked very well as there was already an established enmity between Bush and the show. They sprinkle in a few jokes about his presidency here and there, but it's never at the forefront of the humor.

The episode also ends by poking fun at Gerald Ford in a similar way, portraying him as an oafish buffoon similar to Homer.

Sideshow Bob Roberts does portray the Republican Party as comically evil, with their headquarters being a medieval castle and their members reciting occultish rites at the start of their meeting, but the episode never really goes any deeper than that. It never attacks Republican politics or politicians directly, and compared to Mayor Quimby Sideshow Bob comes off far more capable and intelligent.

You know whats ironic about this? The clip claims Trump needs a distraction, but dare I say the person who actually needs a distraction is one Matt Groening?
