This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Dixie Kong - mid fodder. I think the following poll says enough about Diddy's strength, and I expect Dixie to be weaker than him (and K. Rool, for that matter):

Otacon - mid fodder. That's about where he was last time, and I don't expect anything to change.

Prince of Persia - mid fodder. While his percentages have always been.. acceptable considering the competition he has faced and his own status in the pecking order, the fact that he was omitted from the gigantic 2013 bracket and there was no push to get him back in 2018 signifies a likely drop from high fodder.

I say Dixie is High Fodder. I don't think the poll from 2009 is too representative of where the site's opinion sits on Diddy now, and he's also not the kind of character with passionate support that would do well in a poll with a lot of other options. Dixie does not have smash, but she has been in many DK games including Country 2 which Gfaqs really likes.

Otacon I will also go with High Fodder. It's hard to get a read on him from CB9 since he lost to Magus, who proceeded to run into Crono for an SFF beatdown. I would put him around the fodder line at that time personally. Assuming he lost a step the same way Big Boss and many other Metal Gear characters, high fodder seems fitting.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Prince. I don't see a huge amount of people caring for him today.

Dixie Kong - High Fodder. She's not DK or Diddy. She's not going to put up the same fight. But I see her being recognizable enough to beat up on any Low Fodder and well over half of Mid Fodder, so low end of High Fodder sounds accurate.

Otacon - Mid Fodder. People don't care about Metal Gear the way they used to, aside from Snake. CB9 was six years ago now, so I don't see him putting up half the numbers he did. Today, I see him being what Jade was in that match, though the fact that not enough people know Jade is a travesty in and of itself.

Prince - Mid Fodder. A character nobody cares about anymore from a series almost nobody cares about anymore. Times change.

Diddy has never put up a fight. He looked awful both times he showed up in a poll. I see no reason to believe anything would change, especially when K. Rool underperformed and DK himself is an infamous choker.

I misworded things. Dixie isn't as strong as DK or Diddy. DK is a Midcarder. Diddy is Fodder Line. Dixie isn't going to be either of those. Perhaps I am overrating her, but this IS NintendoFAQs.

Agree with this.

Using Diddy's underperformances as an argument for why Dixie will be weak is questionable, considering the time and circumstances. However, Dixie's portfolio of P2 in DKC2, P1 in DKC3, and a few minor roles since is a long way off from Diddy's portfolio of P2 in DKC, P1 in DKC2, Diddy Kong Racing, DK64, the Smash series, etc.

Otacon looked like High Fodder in 2013, when Metal Gear characters were universally at their peak, and they've all gotten significantly weaker since. As for The Prince, The Sands of Time should allow him to retain just enough strength to avoid Low Fodder oblivion.

I saw some weeks back that Pearl & Marina, who I rejected the nomination of at some point, had their own wikipedia page for some reason and I almost considered allowing them. But those 2 could probably do decently on their own. Callie & Marie probably wouldn't do well separately and are very much linked as characters, so I will allow them. I will try to remember to rewrite the duo rules on the next day to both allow for special cases and rule out things like Sonic & Knuckles.
