That was a time before Spider-Man, a time before D&D, a time before Thomas Edison, a time before TV sets and video games, a time before the Interwebs, a time before centrifugal force was a thing... you get the idea.

What did it mean to be an Ancient Greek Geek? Like, did they say "isosceles" in every other sentence? Was it really just math that they could geek out about? Did they memorize mythology? Or did they talk about how geeks before them didn't have anything?

It's... suddenly a curiosity of mine.

Do you mean pop culturally? Because they would have talked about myths, legends, and the latest plays. They might have also talked about songs that have been lost to time.

Well, just take a play, back then nerds were the alpha males and would chat nonchalantly about their action. Which wasn't just heterosexual. At least for general chat among friends.

Yes if only we could look back at the recorded history of the lost ages of 1919.

So I guess it's just common knowledge to you to know what geeks obsessed over in 1919. Good on you!

There's one day in 427 BC that's particularly well-documented, if you want to get an idea.

Do you ever wonder if there was some super nerdy game that geeks obsessed over that has been lost to time? Like maybe someone invented some sort of collectable figure game, and the rules and knowledge of it is completely forgotten. And all physical evidence is just assumed to be artwork or other artifacts.

For that matter, what do you think future archaeologists will think of all the leftover pokemon cards and toys they'll dig up. Do you imagine without any other context or information remaining they'll assume it was a game? They might just think we worshipped them or something.

Yes I do, and I think one of their D&D books survived.

There was probably some "geek sport" for the men who were deemed physically unfit to be warriors back in Ancient cultures, but it wasn't preserved the way the gladiator arena or that Ancient Mayan ball game were. I would presume it was somewhat similar to chess. Might've just used rocks or something, as it would be highly likely that we'd have found preserved carvings by now.

or did we?
