Also, I almost never see this. Much more common is something along the lines of "lmao snowflake you think everything is racist that isn't racist stop playing the race card". The hand wringing is reserved almost exclusively for like Mitt Romney and Marco Rubio. Just denying it is racist is like 10x more common from my experience.

I am extremely active in one of the biggest Right-Wing Patreon-supported person's Facebook groups (yes, I know, but I like to see and talk to people who believe completely different things than me, and FB is strict enough to keep it from being a dumpster fire...all the time), and it's all I see.

Like sure, they deny that it's racist at all and say the things you said, but when his straight-up racism is put in their face, they go to "He's just a businessman! He does what's best, no matter what race."

You really don't have to make things up about Trump to make him out as a demon when you can, for example, just point to anything whatsoever that he posts on Twitter and let that speak for itself.

Hm. This is actually tough to debate because this is a subtle distinction.

You are saying "these people know it is racist, and use this as an excuse to hand wave away what he says" and I am saying "these people don't know it is racist, and use this same evidence as support for their argument that he isn't".

Like I think we both see the same things (I am also involved in groups like that for the same reason), but at least in my experience they actually do not believe what he is saying/doing is racist. They think racism is worse against whites, that we're just purposefully exaggerating for political points, that there aren't any sort of real, systemic racial problems in this country.

I'm not sure which is worse, but the latter is definitely at least prevalent enough that I have noticed a pattern.

There is nothing to respond to. It is a snippet. There is no context provided. For all I know it is a racially insensitive joke. That is the problems with your hit jobs you try and run. They almost always are devoid of context and the totality of it.

If that is him stating his actual beliefs and he lived his life according to that then he was a racist in the 90s or whenever that was from.

If so, it seems he has changed because he has not shown an accordance to racist beliefs such as that as of today unless you can provide proof otherwise that he believes blacks to be inferior as stated here or in beliefs regarding to Jews (which obviously his daughter has converted to).

So, what is there to respond to until you want to provide context?

Racism isnt just saying one of a handful of words. As far as I can tell, your complaint is that liberals consider everything racist, to the point of it being a useless term, and youve responded by defining it to be uselessly narrow (and Trump has occasionally been explicit, as in the quote Tony posted). Things like birtherism are racist. Trump was bringing up disingenuous doubts about Obamas birthplace because he thought that Obama, as a black man, was not a real American.

No shit language is malleable. That's why it's frustrating to be able to observe people move the goalposts. It's language policing for no clear reason. And, in cases where the reason IS clear, it's generally to sanitize meaning.

And saying the argument "relies" on the term is disingenuous. I can describe what the ocean is without using the word "water," but by saying I'm not allowed to use that word you are ruining my ability to explain it in the simplist possible terms that (should be) the easiest to understand. As well as shifts the conversation to let people go "dihydrogen monoxide, huh? Well that's different from water."
