Corrik why does the simple fact of claiming something juicy outweigh the lack of playing like he actually cared the way he would if he were that role? He should never have been chill about being the guinea pig, should never have played in such a way that claiming to save himself was the end goal, and should have actually gotten some sort of read to share out of the reactions he was supposedly trying to generate. Awful lot of stuff that makes less sense for town than for scum just picking a good power to claim to try to survive.

Detective gives you 3 roles when you scan a person. 1 is their actual role. The other 2 are roles actually in the game but not the persons. Can be all town, scum mixed in, etc. It is a verifiable role which to fake it would need a rolecop and good guessing if they accidentally scan a Town Vanilla. (roles are usually all different).

Maybe they have a role cop but then again its still suicidable. The reason to claim detective is because there is such low odds of one existing that there would be no counter.

On the other hand, detective can be very hard to fake.

If they rolescan a Vanilla.

THey would give a

Town Vanilla
Town Make something up and hope it exists
and an actual Scum Role (because why try to make up 2 town roles).

It is very risky and very easy to be confirmed as scum tomorrow if it is scum. Why roll the dice on a town power role claim when we will know much more assuredly tomorrow and possibly avoid a mislynch if true.
