The Last Samurai was about a Captain in the American army (marines? whatever). You wouldn't have an Asian guy play that role. The point is that he's an American who went to Japan and was captured and learned the ways of the Japanese. So he learns the way of the samurai and becomes a samurai. He's supposed to be a white guy.
