Professor level is 500 points per level. You can buy individual support levels for each character, and it's 400 points per level (but you can only unlock ones you've already unlocked on prior playthroughs). You can also buy classes you've mastered and the bonus skill they provide for 500 points per class. You can buy skill levels for 500 points per level. You can also buy special accessories (and the game gives you a bunch up front, to boot) that you can equip to characters to give them the powers of a certain Crest. Don't know if I really want to use those though.

Thankfully, you don't have to do it all up front when you start. As you accumulate Renown through the game, you can go back and buy more stuff, so that's nice.

Also, it's kind of mind-blowing seeing some of the early game dialogue and stuff with the perspective of someone who's beaten one of the routes and knows a lot of the story beats compared to going into it completely blind a month ago.

You can get E+ Professor Level the first day. You should do that and then get your professor level up to A or A+ immediately, IMO. I focused on skills after that to make it easier to recruit everyone.

You don't have to save any LotM, since you get a ton of renown at the start of the NG+. Maybe just avoid buying the last two expensive upgrades for each statue.

Yeah, I got all the way up to A pretty quickly from the extra Renown I got from doing the first batch of sidequests.

Yeah Ive read that the stat caps are high enough to make the last statue upgrades pretty useless, and I dont really want the xp boosts because its already so easy to overlevel. I do want those skill growth boosts, though!

I cleared all the statues on my first run except for the last two bonuses on each and still had enough to max professor level right away (after getting it to E+ on day one at least). Think I had a good amount of renown left over after that too.

It's interesting that the strategies of the Black Eagles is different in the first mock battle this time playing as the Golden Deer than it was as the Blue Lions.

How do the professors rotate? Iirc from the BE mock battle, Hanneman was the BL professor and Manuela was the GD professor.

Also, finished Ingrid/Dorotheas paralogue and upgraded a few characters to advanced classes (Edelgard to Wyvern Rider and Petra to Assassin). Sadly, Byleth doesnt have the skills yet.

Hanneman was the BL professor and Manuela was the BE professor for this one. I think it was Hanneman for GD and Manuela for BE in my BL run.

LotM, since you were asking about it - and since I'm exploring in Chapter 9 now, doesn't seem to be any battle quests this month. So, should be a good month to tackle the overflow of paralogues.

Also, for the Dance Contest assuming it unlocks the Dancer class that narrows my candidates to my usual deployment team and narrowing it down from them in terms of a gameplay standpoint I think it's between Petra and Marianne. Petra has increasingly found herself in a "what do" situation since she and Felix tend to occupy the same role only Felix is a beast and has left her behind. Think I'll go with Petra because IC picking Marianne would be silly.

Also leveraged my bait into like 10k Professor EXP this month because the long-awaited fishing event returned and this time I was stockpiling for it. At A rank now but argh still like 8k away from A+. That probably comes down to about 5k by the end of the month but still. =(

My main 10 right now are: Byleth, Edelgard, Hubert, Shamir, Lysithea, Petra, Caspar, Felix, Ingrid, and Marianne.

Caspar is there just because I like having at least one person with each weapon type and he is my gauntlet user.

Dorothea becomes a pretty great magic user!

I never took a liking to Shamir as a battle unit. If I ever wanted to use a non-student, I usually went with Catherine. Thunderbrand is awesome.

On my Golden Deer run, my main ten are: Byleth, Claude, Hilda, Marianne, Leonie, Lysithea, Lorenz, Petra, Ingrid, and Mercedes. I try to sneak in Rapheal when I can while Ignatz has unfortunately fallen off.

I think my main crew during BE was Byleth, Edelgard, Hubert, Bernadetta, Dorothea, Petra, Ingrid, Linhardt, Ferdinand, and Felix.

With the Blue Lions, my main ten eventually became Byleth, Dimitri, Felix, Dedue, Mercedes, Ingrid, Sylvain, Annette, Dorothea, and Ashe. I liked rolling with my own house! I would add in Bernadetta or Petra if I was allowed to go 11 or 12 deep. Lysithea, Ignatz, and Flayn were usually my adjutants.

Due to the a Bernadetta/Linhardt support I looked up vermillion (the pigment) and found out that it's apparently mercury sulfide and is very toxic

Chapter 7 mission: Battle of the Eagle and Lion beated! Managed to intercede before the Blue Lions and Golden Deer could reach each other and get all of the kills. Pegasus Knight Byleth was a one woman wrecking crew able to hold the bottom middle section by herself while my other two groups went down the sides, but I then had to stall with Dmitri while Edelgard killed Claude and made her way back to the other side of the map to get her battle quotes against both leaders (though I guess I missed Claude's battle quote with Byleth).

I've been trying to stick to my original house in my Golden Deer run. Ignatz sucks pretty hard in battle though. Definitely the weakest of the lot.

I think my characters getting hit the worst by the RNG have been Hubert and Ferdinand (at least they stick out in my mind as getting 2 or 3 stat level ups fairly often), though nobody's really be hit too bad. I guess Bernadetta's been fairly unlucky in getting Atk gains, though otherwise she's doing okay.

I'm still using all of the Black Eagles, though that might change soon. Not quite sure who I'd drop.

Ferdinand sucked in my playthrough too. Hubert was good, but having the best spells helped him too.

Yeah Hubert can still wreck stuff, but he's a little squishy and doesn't reliably double. I do semi-regularly use the rewind ability to undo two stat level ups, though.

First two weeks in Chapter 9 complete.

Petra won the Dance Contest. Mercedes and Lorenz were her opponents. Not that they had the biggest pool to choose from! Comically, the very next day Mercedes asked to join so she did. Two days after that Raphael did the same.

The not Byleth team is doing well in advancing to Advanced Classes so far. Even though Edelgard already had one I gave her Wyvern Rider so I can go full Daenerys if I want to. Hubert went to Dark Bishop. Lysithea could promote now and went to Warlock. Marianne to Bishop.

Stopped before I could check on Petra/Felix/Caspar since they reached Level 20 during the second free day battles though Petra will go Dancer anyway. Pretty sure Felix and Caspar will be able to go Swordmaster/uh...whatever the next Gauntlet class is though. Ingrid is the odd one out because there's no Pegasus class in Advanced and the only flying class here is Wyvern which needs Axes which she doesn't have. I sent her to Cavalier when she maxed Peg Knight so she might be able to go to Paladin soon while I wait.

Paralogue (Hanneman/Manuela): Whoops, played this wrong the first attempt. I had Manuela sit where she was with the intention of bringing Byleth and Lysithea her way but then the enemy changed tactics to rush her. She managed to beat the first two, but then 4 enemies got in attacking range and whoops. Next time had her run out of there towards the start and that worked fine. Map was simple besides that hiccup.

Paralogue (Flayn/Seteth): Another easy map. I played this map super slow though so I could give the EXP to my units and I had no fliers since Ingrid has a horse now and I don't want Seteth eating up EXP when he isn't even on my team... also meant that whatever "the enemy is fleeing" mechanic kinda... didn't happen, because by the time I dragged a group through the ocean on foot and beat the guy Seteth is obviously supposed to fly to... there was only one other unit left! Also, least surprising reveal that Flayn isn't Seteth's sister lol.

Next time I'll finish the other two paralogues I have left and then it'll be mission time.

Yeah leveling skills to A or B on Byleth seems pretty impossible at the moment since faculty training wastes valuable activity points for relatively small skill point gains

I spend a lot of points on Faculty Training. Feels like I'd spend too long at the monastery otherwise.

Also xp it's not necessarily a bad thing to keep characters in lower class levels. Some of the Master Classes aren't as good as some of the Advanced Classes, and the same is true with Advanced vs. Intermediate.

There are plenty of Advanced classes that are just fine as a final class for characters. I never took Petra out of Assassin during my BE run. Felix also stayed Swordmaster.

With Ingrid in particular, keeping her a Pegasus Knight until you can promote to Falcon Knight would work perfectly fine.

I haven't save scummed that yet, though I have been thinking about doing it going forward. Simply because I'm running out of time before I hit that recruit cutoff TRE mentioned. Chapter 8 no one chose to join that way IIRC and I can't really afford that again!

From what Ive read its a 25% chance, so yeah unless you only have one or two left it seems like save scumming is probably the way to go

FE3H Black Eagles Chapter 9 beated.

Paralogue (Ignatz/Raphael): i almost had a heart attack when the green units decided that because i hadn't dropped the bridge by turn 2 they were just going to yolo into the enemy base instead. Thankfully I was able to block a few of them with Ingrid and the lead green unit could survive the two hits I couldn't. Other than that super easy map. Based on the story of this paralogue, I wish Lorenz had joined my house before this, I wonder if he has unique dialogue if he's around, I bet he does. Oh well.

Paralogue (Catherine/Ashe): In theory this was also an easy map, but in practice thanks to my self-imposed goals and style points of "never let Rhea be attacked" and "win by rout" it was a little trickier, though only because of the dreaded fog of war. Thankfully I have 9 Divine Pulses now though so I can trial and error a lot. Blew like 5 of them on trying to figure out this one Pegasus Knight who kept finding a way to Rhea, got him eventually though. Otherwise, it was just a case of splitting the group into like 5 groups and exploring the fog.

Mission: Well, mission and surrounding plot. First the ball. Kinda funny that only the 3 MCs + Byleth are shown but I guess that's the reality when in theory anyone else could be dead! Byleth and Edelgard had a chat afterwards where she told him how her parents had met at the Goddess Tower and fell in love at first sight. But because nothing is ever happy in the Empire, her dad was already married for political reasons and her mom had to settle for being a concubine - a common practice for the Emperor - and then after Edelgard was born her mom was exiled from the capital as long as she can remember.

Anyway mission. Man, Jeralt totally figured out the students were turned into Demonic Beasts before we even got there and then acts surprised when it's "revealed." Surprisingly easy and straightforward fight. Only tricky thing was me trying to break the barriers on all monsters to maximize item drops and keep Jeralt from kill stealing but even that wasn't hard. Then after the fight, Jeralt jobs to Monica hard. Like lmao. Also Byleth needed to watch Steins;Gate because he gave up trying to change the past way too quick. Only one rewind? And only back like 10 seconds? Hououin Kyoma would never stand for that weak effort. New guy that saved Monica/Kronya is named Thales and he/they are responsible for empowering Flame Emperor who is just so done with them lol. Back with Byleth, Edelgard is 100% no chill tough love about Byleth's grief over Jeralt lol. Also Jeralt's diary makes Rhea seem even sketchier lol. Flayn's B Support also NOT helping. Sad music on the "What to do?" screen is nice, hope it replaces the regular explore music, at least for now. No official mission from Rhea but the calendar basically says we're pursuing Kronya at the end of the month.

Lorenz joined on the first day of the new month. whoo 4 free days again finally. Lorenz joining also seems to have enabled his Paralogue... Recommended Level 13 hahahaha. That leaves Sylvain, Leonie, and Hilda left. Sylvain just... has yet to approach. Leonie's B-Support just unlocked so I can do that on my explore day. And Hilda is... weird. Mechanically she seems like Dmitri/Claude/Dedue where when talking with them I can't even gift or return lost items to them but she's on the support list and I can invite her to meals and stuff which is how I even have a C support with her. Everyone has a B support with Byleth (or is waiting on it) except Hilda, Seteth, and Rhea who just have a C support. Really my goals for the month are get Sylvain and Leonie to join and maybe see if I can hit Professor Level A+. Anything else is just a bonus.

Also, I have turned Edelgard into an engine of death. She walks around with like a base 50 Crit. Axe Crit+10 from her Class, +20 from the Batallion I have on her, +5 from a Critical Ring and then her natural skill. She has a Killer Axe now too if I ever feel like a coin flip isn't enough. >_>

and she already damn near one-shots everything without a crit. She tends to hit in the high 30s/low 40s

Not sure if you've noticed, but you always get three chances to catch fish with each bait. Can wait through the first two for a red one for more efficiency.

If he doesn't stick to the Edelgard route, he can recruit Hilda. That's what I did after I beat Edelgard's route and reloaded my save from before the split to do the other route.
