I watched the new Rocko's Modern Life movie on Netflix last night. I wouldn't say it was great, but it was an enjoyable nostalgia trip down memory lane. It did go in a direction at the end I would not have expected though.

I finished Chapter 8 in Three Houses. Internet is down so I won't go into great detail, but Dimitri went berserk about what happened and gave us some brief insight into his past and the Tragedy of Duscur.

It's a lot of story and a lot of exploration with some battling. I've never played an SRPG that isn't FFT and I haven't felt overwhelmed by the gameplay.

She kind of reminds me of Eddie from Frasier, so I think she might have some Jack Russell terrier in her. Some have said she kind of reminds them of a collie, too, so who knows. She's definitely a mix either way.

Byleth has a new look and the loading screen sprite changed accordingly. He also unlocked the Enlightened One class.

Also, after eavesdropping on a conversation between the bad guys, Dimitri is pretty sure he knows who the Flame Emperor is at this point, but he's keeping that close to the vest for now.

Three Houses Chapter 11 complete

So, uh, Dimitri completely snapped once the Flame Emperor's true identity was revealed to be Edelgard. I don't know if the foreshadowing is this strong for the other routes, but I had a pretty strong suspicion that she was the Flame Emperor. First of all, Monica was constantly hanging around her, so when she was revealed to be an evil flunky, it made sense that she was clinging to Edelgard because she was the Flame Emperor.

Then there's a part during the ball where Dimitri talks about his past with Edelgard and how he gave her a dagger as a parting gift when they were children. Later, when they eavesdrop on the Flame Emperor's conversation with Kronya and Solon, the Emperor throws a dagger at Dimitri when she realizes they're eavesdropping, and he definitely recognizes it. That was the clincher for me.

Now I've been wondering for a while if Byleth and Rhea are half-siblings. Around the time when Jeralt died, she was comforting Byleth and talking about when her mother died. The implication seemed to be that it happened around the same time Byleth was born, so I started to think if they have the same mother. I still don't trust her very much though, so we'll see how that plays out.

Finally satisfied my OCD in CS2's Reverie Corridor and beat the game. Though it was a jerk and refused to cough up even one Domination despite all the time I was messing around. First credits so much better. Better images and better song.

Well, that takes care of that I suppose. I should start Three Houses either later today or tomorrow. Will be picking Black Eagles because I made my decision long ago!

Oh, I meant to include this in my "beat CS2" post but I am seemingly physically incapable of maintaining a coherent train of thought. CS1 did this too (and Tokyo Xanadu) but neither did too much with it, but I love the evolving/updating title screen. It drops the ball in Act 2 though by keeping it constant after having it updated each part in Act 1.

Infernal Castle > Intermission > Act 1 Part 1 (Rean and Toval) > Divertissment > Clear Game (Special shoutout to the scrolling version when it first appears with Crow in his old Thors uniform fading out behind Rean)) > Finale pre-dungeon (both versions) > the rest

also i doubt anyone has any but since cs2 is obviously fresh in my mind if anyone wants rankings/opinions/questions from me this is a good time

It is not.

The best character is probably Fie. She was always near the top in my rankings, but this recent CS1+CS2 replay moved her to the top, I think. Her arc is really well done, her and Jusis probably have the most well-done arcs over both games. Alisa's arc in CS1 is great, but fizzles a bit in CS2, etc. Crow is pretty high on the list though.

Started 3H. Hard/Classic lets roll. Normally I'd have opted for Normal but I remember the reviews said it was easy. Also I know you can hypothetically grind infinitely on Normal and the last thing I need is to give myself an opportunity to fall into the trap of doing that. Let's see if this implodes on me later!

I was about to get mad at Jeralt for kill stealing the leader of the Prologue but what a bro he left him at 1 HP magically despite the fact that he should have done 13 damage to the guy's 4 HP and just canto'd out like a hero. If they're gonna give him a hidden mercy skill should have displayed it on his actual skill list! Also, made sure to steal Dimitri and Claude's weapons and vulneraries by trading them to Byleth and Edelgard first. these are the top level strats you see.

I believe the game is coded such that Ally Greens cannot get the killing blow on enemy bosses and will always leave them at 1 HP.

Even Hard gives lots (too much) of opportunity for grinding later on! Ended up wasting some periods just to grind less.

Chapter 1 beated. I'll use spoiler tags from now on even though nothing important happened in this chapter and it seems like everyone is way ahead of me. >_>

General Thoughts on the Black Eagles. These guys are so dysfunctional lol. Edelgard's real job keeping these jokers in line tbqh.

Free Time: oh man i can see this taking up so much of my time in the future. also who are these guys to tell me "i have no business past here" or "you can't pass" nepotism got me this job but can't let me walk pass arbitrary boundaries? I also noticed that in the brief time where you're talking to everyone to see who you want to join, the Roster from the menu has everyone but once I picked the Black Eagles it got cut down to just them. Good thing I took the time to read everyone's stuff while I could! Also that Gatekeeper is suspicious as hell. "Too bad you can't turn back time!" he knows. this is the gas station attendant all over again. byleth will remember this.

Mission: Mock Battle? Time to put in maximum effort to crush these fools! I deployed Byleth, Edelgard, Petra, Bernadetta, and Dorothea. My choices was primarily based on who I found the most interesting so far and that just happened to be all the girls whoops. But also I got lazy and thought Dorothea had white magic so she won the last slot on that basis. But then on like Turn 2 I realized I'm an idiot and she doesn't. double whoops. Her personal skill kinda helps though.

The Battle Preparation music is fire. I was almost disappointed when I realized it was the prep music and not the actual battle/map theme but Fodlan Winds is awesome too so it's okay. When I scanned the map I basically decided I was gonna power through the Blue Lions and wrap around to reach Claude behind his barriers (though I believe you could get around them on the side too.) In practice though I basically went "who wants some!?" and challenged both simultaneously. Mostly because half of Claude's team is dumb and charged me. Had Byleth/Petra/Dorothea deal with them while Edelgard and Bernadetta worked on preparing for engaging the Blue Lions as planned. But then Claude and Dimitri were all "You really trying to take both houses on at once?" and I was like "Actually, the plan was mostly one at a time, but bring it losers!" and Claude/Hilda/Manuela started advancing towards me on the long path I intended to march on after Dimitri. So I rapidly switched tactics to "blow the **** out of the Blue Lions before they get here." Succeeded thanks to MVP Edelgard who wrecked Dimitri and Claude, scoring the kills on both. I kinda wanted to spread the EXP around a bit better than I did, but I also wanted battle convos and I assumed it was just Edelgard and Byleth who had it with them and plus it was just funny watching Edelgard talk smack to them pre-fight and then just absolutely body them in it. Hanne-old dude-I'll work on remembering his name just hung back and watched this happen lol. He was the last one standing and as a reward faced my whole team. flawless victory.

Yeah, when I was playing as the Blue Lions, the Golden Deer (Lorenz in particular) charged right in, and the Black Eagles kind of held back. Edelgard basically went, "Hey Dorothea, you go in alone and scout things out for us," and the rest of them hung back until I wrapped things up.

Also, third tier persona design spoilers: The travesty of Makoto's persona evolution is lessened as her third tier is basically the Batmobile. Original persona is still the best, but at least it went back in the right direction!

FE3H Chapter 2 beated.

Free Time: Yay, I have more places to go. Was a bit weird when the choir/cooking quests sounded like "go find some students interested in music/recipes" and it really meant "actually pick up this item." I did the choir one first and made a beeline to Dorothea since she used to be an opera singer and at least the idea was sound since the item was by her, but I expected I'd have to talk to her for this. guess not. Also Seteth's "investigate the Western Church" quest didn't go like I expected. The student I talked to was like "yo some people are hella racist prof" and that was apparently what he wanted? Even though the Western Church never came up? At all? Also I tried to recruit everyone as I made my rounds of talking to everyone and got rejected by everyone lol. only felix was even slightly interested. damn that hurts.

As for teaching, oh huh, this is interesting. I see Dorothea has a hidden talent in white magic so I'm retconning that mock battle deployment of her from "im dumb and made a mistake" to "damn i'm a genius this was all in preparation of this moment!" On the final free day where the game only gave me Seminar or Rest I had Seteth give a seminar. In retrospect, I'm not sure this was the right call because motivation seems very important, but thankfully a bunch of people attended and got motivation so I'll be okay for my next teaching session. Was also unsure/hoping motivation would refresh for a new chapter but alas.

Mission: Well, mission, and the time it forced me to use my free day on a practice fight I guess. I won't tell a big story like I did before and hopefully that won't be a pattern either? Did a better job of splitting up the EXP these times. Both battles essentially were me splitting the team up into two groups, one headed by Byleth, the other by Edelgard, and proceeding. Was more satisfied with how it went in the real mission. In the practice fight I originally tried to split the group 3 ways but it got messy and really became 2. But I digress.

Petra has emerged as my third-best fighter so far, I think, mostly because she doubles frequently. At the end of the mission Byleth, Edelgard, and her all made Level 5 (and mastered their original class.) Everyone else was at Level 3, except Bernie who was 4 EXP short. argh i tried! Also, since Edelgard is already my primary axe-user, I've decided to get Caspar using gauntlets since they were his second-best weapon. Has been working well so far. He's the next-best melee user. ferdinand you're a scrub step up your game. Linhardt learned Physic so now we're in business. Also technically I did this on the first what-do-you-want-to-do screen of Chapter 3 before I stopped, but I promoted Byleth and Petra to Myrmidon and Edelgard to Fighter. I wanted to send Byleth to Monk because lots of people I want to recruit like magic and stuff but he couldn't take the test. =( Myrmidon is my favorite of those classes excepting that reason though so it's fine for now.

Might have to take a second to think how this month will go. Motivation is a slight concern for me carrying over from last month. Gonna explore for sure first though for quests, new areas, and also I'm so close to a new professor level need more points.

He's an awesome character (he has fantastic support conversations, especially with Dorothea, surprisingly) and an awesome unit. His Crest bonus triggers pretty frequently, way more often than anyone else's among the Blue Lions, at least for me.
