Yeah it's "bullshit" that they're following the advice of people who actually know what they're talking about and have only been saying that scene was a terrible idea since it first aired.

Ive actually been planning on watching the show, but that is disappointing. Not that violence should be glorified, but it sounds like it would have been a hard-hitting scene that I could have appreciated as someone who has lost family members to suicide.

I think many times these doctors/experts are so disconnected from the actual experience of the things they treat, that they really dont know what the fuck theyre talking about.

It's unfortunately they didn't cancel the show.

Putting depressed teens at greater risk for the entertainment of 20 somethings that used to be depressed teens is evil.

I'm not sure how much they cut. But maybe the blood or her mom the lady from Grey's Anatomy walking in to her lifeless body. She was crying and told her husband to call 911.

They're removing the entire 3-minute scene. It now ends with her looking in the mirror and immediately jumps to her parent's reaction.

Agreed. It is rare to see an actually suicide of someone so young in the media. Maybe I am desensitized to the whole thing because I just saw a dark comedy short film about a guy who writes his suicide note professing his love to a woman. He then hangs himself and as he is about to die his dog comes in and eats his suicide note and he then struggles to break free to save the suicide note but he can't and dies. During all this the woman who he wrote the note for called saying the book he wrote was a success and that she would go on a date with him.

Talking about self harm and suicide is NOT even close to what this show is. Its distilled all the pain and drama into passive entertainment for yuppie fuckwits.

It is late, but new seasons always bring in new viewers that start from the beginning of the show so they'll at least catch those.

This actually happen to me with Bird Box. I kept putting it off and off. And there was a controversy about them using video of a real tragedy in one of the scenes. By the time I finally got around to watching it the controversial scene was cut.

The biggest problem here is that streaming providers such as Netflix and Amazon can cut shows after they've aired, meaning the only way to get the original version of such a show is to pirate it.

This is why the "streaming future" is such a bad idea.

I feel like if there is a problem, this scene wasn't it.

It was so graphic and unnerving. It didn't make suicide (the attempt at least) look desirable, it made it look hard, brutal and painful. Then the immediate reactions of the parents, the mother especially was very disturbring and heart-wrenching to watch. I have a difficult time believing anyone, even already suicidal people can watch that and feel enthused to live it out.

They did not make it look easy or simple to accomplish, nor was it beautiful or made to seem noble and they framed how it traumatized her parents (who she loved) immediately after. If someone is pumping their fist at that scene as opposed to pausing for thought, they're already way past the danger zone.

The rest of the show, I can absolutely see the argument, at times it does feel romanticized, that the main character is getting her "deserved" revenge. But not that scene. I kinda feel like skipping over it so quickly might even romanticize things more because they don't get a chance to hammer in how absolutely horrifying the act is.

All that said, I'm not a psychological expert so whatever, willing to admit I could be completely wrong and people vary wildly so someone is bound to react the way some psychologists are predicting regardless. Sucks there's probably no legal way to watch it as intended now, though.

Edit: Added some spoiler tags just incase?

Id love to see a script of the actual conversation. Im not saying it's impossible but it seems way more likely that a depressed person would just perceive something said wrong.
