I found 13 to be decent about 3/4 of the way through.

I played through it and there were certainly good parts to it, but it felt like they had two different ideas for the game and just combined them rather than settling on one.

I thought the story was good, not great. I absolutely HATED the open world stuff. It's like 2 completely incongruous games sloppily stapled together.

That being said, if you want a Final Fantasy with an amazing story, play FFXIV Shadowbringers.

Nothing like wasting your time for 75% of a game

I liked it. No on red mages though yes on tonberrys.

Ignis is the closest to a red mage and thats really stretching. When you control him he can attach fire lightning or blizzard elements to his blades and when controlling noctis he can heal the whole party. So bladed weapons something resembling elemental magic and healing if you wanna get really loose on what qualifies as a red mage.

Yeah the best way to describe FFXV is unrealized potential. It doesnt do a terrible but there was a lot of things you know they could have done better that they just didnt do.

It's decent. I beat it twice. Liked it better than ff13 as well. Those are the only two main ff titles I've played through.

I enjoyed it. I need to play through again after they changed some stuff with patches.

That might be a side-effect of them starting to develop the game with the intention of it being a sequel/tie-in to FFXIII set in the same world, then at some point in development shifting it to its own world and rebranding it as FFXV. Maybe one half the game is closer to the original plans, while the other half was based on ideas they had once they'd re-pivoted the development.

That shift might also be why they wound up cutting out a large chunk of backstory and releasing it as an animated movie and not as part of the game itself. But then again, that might just be Squeenix being their usual stupid and insane self.

What kills me is ive seen people imply they wouldnt have disliked the game had it not been a mainline entry. Like really? The words on the cover is that important?

The battle mechanics became really fun IMO once you got deeper into the game, but it took waaaay too long to get to that point.

The game is 95% too easy, story is a mess, boring side fetch & kill quests that should only exist in MMOs if even.

Maybe it's less about the game itself and more about how it causes them to view the company as a whole... which, in turn, changes how they view the game.

I mean, I'm still resentful on some level that they pulled marketing bullshit and called their Final Fantasy MMO "Final Fantasy 11" in the hopes of tricking people into buying it (something Blizzard shied away from when they created WoW - hence why it wasn't just Warcraft 4). I could see how that resentment might cause people to judge FFXI (or even future games) more negatively because of it.

That being said, it didn't affect my feelings on future games as much as it might have, because I feel like shortly after FFX is when the franchise and the company dove head-first into a sewer and never crawled out again. That, combined with my dwindling interest in JRPGs in general, sort of killed any interest I had or might have had for future FF games. At this point, the series has been dead to me for about 12 years.

I agree on the mmos. But I can atleast admit its simply cause I dont like mmos and dont go on to nitpick overexaggerate or even lie to shit on the games as a whole.

I mean I was arguing with a guy and he was bitching about every last detail of XV but after a while he admited to me he did enjoy the game but felt it shouldnt have been a mainline entry. What was so hard about saying that from the start? A lot of people seemed fine with saying mgs v was a good game just not a good mgs game.
