i'm not really feeling it

I was originally gonna vote bad but then remembered the only part I really hate is the ending so.... meh. Definitely convinced me not to bother with Layton games though.

i felt this as well. i did try Azure Mask before this but gave up like an hour in. playing through this one just kind of solidified that.

the third trial is really good

Could have been better if it didn't drag too long all the time

It's a good game. I was a fan of both series, and I think it mixed both series together pretty well.

An "okay" game crossing over two great series. As a big fan of both it was painfully apparent that they purposefully held back both styles of gameplay to accommodate players who were only familiar with one or the other.

Overall better game than AA4 or AAI1 imo mainly because the third trial is fantastic

Too bad about the final trial

It's good for what it's supposed to be. It's a game meant to let Layton fans try Ace Attorney and visa versa.

Third trial is upper-high tier as far as Ace Attorney cases go.

Case 3 is a top tier case. The rest are decent. The ending is a hot mess, but after playing some Layton games, that seems pretty par for the course for the series.

Layton 3 is a downright ridiculously good game in every sense. 5 is also really great but it's more about the puzzles and presentation from them really taking advantage of the 3DS. I still haven't played 6 because I don't want the journey to end. :(

I think it's fine. I was just delighted we got to spend more time with Maya! There were also some cool characters there.

This is weirdly the game where Phoenix gets to spend the most time with Maya, which is nice

I finished the third trial. Yeah it was good.

But for some reason I thought I was near the end and was going to power through what i thought was going to be the last adventure section and then the final trial.

Turns out there's still like half the game left to go so uh yeah probably wont do that -_-

yeah you're still in for the long haul, the last trial is hellishly long

Yeah, the last case (counting the adventure section, that is) is almost as long as the rest of the game put together.

when i said "probably won't do that" i meant probably won't go through with finishing the game since i mostly just stuck to see how that third trial went. it was a very middling experience and while i could have seen it through to the end if there were only like two sections left, finding out that i was only halfway through pretty much killed any motivation i had >_>

so ten minutes after i made that post i went and looked up the ending and...LOL WHAT

it's funny because in my original shortlist of complaints, one of them was that the setting and premise of witches, magic, etc. wasn't very interesting to me. truly, you never know what you'll miss until it's gone. rip

I was about to say you should at least see how the game ends because it's really something else

the thing is (series spoilers) when it ends the same way as every other layton game, it goes from "really something else" to "actually kind of forgettable". hell i've played the game and i don't even remember it. the magic was all vantablack and uh god i don't even remember what else. it wasn't very impressive, i know that much.

well when it's your first Layton experience it's memorable

Yeah, hearing that lol everything was fake the whole time through some nonsense is the standard ending for Layton games was a large part of my decision to not play them

Layton is crazy like that. I don't know if the second trilogy works the same way but well let's say I've accepted that unique Laytonesque ending so whatever.

It's not directly related to the primary mystery, no, but it was still a pretty huge shocker and a big reason it's my favorite of the Layton games I've played.
