To be honest I'm baffled by the lack of a retro rep this time around (I don't really count Simon or PP since they don't fit the same archetype as G&W, ICs, ROB, or Duck Hunt). Takamaru and Sukapon are off the table due to being ATs but maybe someone like Mach Rider could still show up?

Ike is just so far and away the main character in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn that his addition made so much sense. I felt Robin was unique enough. So like the mistakes is Roy at that point but the game with Lyn/Hector/Eliwood hasn't come out yet for Melee. Obviously we don't NEED Chrom/Lucina but watcha going to do. So Corin was the first chance to do some thing differently.

Lumping in Corrin with "generic swordspeople" is pretty dumb, first of all, since most of her attacks are dragon fang based, and second, because the yato works more like a chainsaw than a regular sword.

There are still missing Capcom Mii outfits from Smash 4.

We are also missing some Square ones, which will probably come out next month, or whenever Hero comes out.

We were missing some Sega ones, but they came out with Joker's release. That's the main reason I'm expecting a Capcom rep anyway.

Capcom already has three characters. Even if one of them is an echo. Konami also has three (including Richter the echo) and I guess Sega technically has three. Square has two and poor Bandai-Namco who helped develop the freaking game has just one. So no doubt, one of them HAS to be a Namco rep. That's why I'm cautiously optimistic for Lloyd.

I feel like the final one ought to be a true gaming icon. And I mean like a household name that even a non-gamer may recognize. Lara Croft or Crash Bandicoot certainly fit, as much as I trashed Crash fans during pre-release for acting like he was a 100% lock.

One more suggestion that I wanna throw out there that, while not an icon on Lara/Crash level, has probably gone far too overlooked as a distant possibility - the Prince of Persia.

I'm really feeling Doom Slayer at this point. If it isn't him it'll probably be another Capcom guy. Even if they already have three reps they also have what I think is the second best lineup of characters after Nintendo, so personally I think they deserve four reps, even five, six, hell, do Smash Bros. X Capcom for all I care.

Thinking the possibilities include:
Leon Kennedy/Jill Valentine - Resident Evil has had a good Nintendo history the last almost 20 years now
Dante - Not the best Nintendo history, but he's a big star, and could potentially still make it.
Arthur from Ghosts n Goblins - One of the last remaining iconic NES era platformers, and being Capcom makes his chances better.
Master Chief - If you think Banjo's reveal was big, imagine a Master Chief reveal. Not sure they'll double dip two DLCs into Microsoft though.
Steve from Minecraft - Same as above pretty much.
Ryu Hayabusa - There has been some Tecmo stirrings with Nintendo lately, and he's IMO, the biggest NES era icon who isn't in Smash at this point. I'd be shocked if it happened, but I could also see it. I'm not expecting it this game though.
Tom Nook - The last DLC slot will coincide about with the time of the new Animal Crossing game, so Nintendo could use the last slot for themselves to put in one of the 3 biggest Nintendo exclusions at this point. Not really expecting Nintendo slots in the DLC though, but if any get it, I think he has one of the best shots.
Crash Bandicoot - Not sure if Banjo's inclusion makes him more or less likely. It would seem odd to put a 2nd 64 bit era 3D platformer animal mascot as DLC.
Rayman - Well, he IS already in the ice.
Sans - Undertale has done very well with Nintendo, and this one would make people lose their shit. I could see it happening, but I think it's a low chance.

I think there are better indie inclusions than Sans, Steve is worse than Banjo or Chief (although Minecraft is still important, it should just be a stage if anything) and Sakurai caving in after all that Waluigi whining would be the worst

I believe Dante was already confirmed not to be one of the characters since there wasn't a DMC game on a Nintendo system at the time. There's going to be one now but it's too late. Dante would pretty much be a lock if there's a DLC pack 2, though.

Dante was in Project X Zone which is enough to qualify him if you go by the Cloud factor of being very briefly in one GBA Kingdom Hearts game for like two seconds

Nintendo isn't going to go to all the effort of making an Assist Trophy, and then do away with it by making them playable. Maybe next game, but there is no way he's going to be playable in this game.

There's no rule that says a character that was an Assist Trophy can't be a playable character. Chrom being in Robin's Final Smash was a similar situation and they allowed Chrom to both be playable and in the Final Smash.

Sure, there's no rule, but it's more about the workload for Nintendo that they put into an Assist Trophy (it's not as simple as people seem to think), and then turn around and make them a fighter too. They wouldn't have bothered to do the Assist Trophy in the first place.

I know Waluigi is suddenly getting name dropped because of a photoshopped picture that conveniently predicted The Hero and Banjo "right before the direct", but has only recently surfaced. Really makes you think.
