My boss has one and he loves it. I think they're sharp, for lack of a better term, but not what I'd buy if I had the ability to finance something of that price.

I'd like to test drive one. I'd hope it doesn't start making me itch even more for one though, not looking to spend so much for a car

are you looking to buy new or used? i've seen some used ones with good mileage for like low-mid 40s.

I hate the idea of buying used cars, honestly. I know it'd be a ton more economical, assuming nothing is wrong with it, but I'd rather just buy it new.

i'm kinda torn about used vs new for my next car. part of me wants to go new so i can get exactly what i want. i also don't drive a lot (~7k miles/year) so if i got a new car it would most likely last me ~15-20 years, so it's like "why shoulnd't i get exactly what i want when it'll last that long?".

but OTOH i can probably get a used model that's really close to what i want, if not exactly, by just being patient and being diligent about searching frequently. being able to save ~10-15k (or more) and get something real close to my ideal purchase is so tempting.

do you rent or own your living space? asking because i'm curious about how someone renting an apartment would handle the whole 'needing a charging station' thing.

Yeah, the charging situation will be interesting. I live less than 5 minutes away from work and my job's corporate office has charging stations in the parking lot under the buildings. So I'd most likely be charging it there most of the time.

There's also the option of getting a garage at my apartment complex and there's an option to have a power outlet installed in those, I think.

my work also provides charging stations. having my job subsidize my transportation costs is very appealing.

pretty sure Tesla will be bankrupt before 34 months and you will have much better / more efficient electric cars by then.

Yeah... I'm going for the Model S Long Range, which has 370 miles of range at the moment... It may be even better than that by the time I get mine, but... Even if it's still 370 miles of range in 3 years, that'd be more than enough for what I need. On a normal day, I drive about 7.5 miles.

My busiest normal day is Home > Work > Gym > HEB > Home

Work is about 2 miles away
The gym is about 2.5 miles away from work
HEB is about 1 mile from the gym
Home is about 2.5 miles away from home

They recommend charging the battery to 80% for daily use and 100% for long trips

370 miles *.8 = 296 miles
296 / 7.5 = 39.4666...

There's obviously other things that drain the battery through normal use, but... If I can go 30+ days without even needing to charge, that would be freaking awesome. And even then, it would cost about $13 to charge it from empty to full.

Eh, in that case I'd either go with the better electric car or just keep all the money I have saved up and stick with my current car until the wheels start falling off.
