Lets assume states like Alabama and Mississippi are going to be forced into it. Which state will be the last to actually vote on it and allow recreational marijuana use. Also, when do you think it will be federally legal?

Interesting. Does that mean you see recreational use happening soon?

At this rate, New York. Cuomo keeps holding it out like a carrot on a stick whenever voting season comes around, then acting like he forgot about it.

Georgia has already legalized medical marijuana and decriminalized recreational use, which surprised me. So I doubt they'll be the last to fully legalize it.

I'd have to see a list of states that still ban medical before I would take a guess. I bet it wouldn't be any of the obvious choices like Utah or one of the Southern states. Maybe Idaho?

Okay

Got confused when people said that would be the last one. It was one of the first. Colorado and Washington was first, and then Oregon along with a few others, including Alaska, I think

That's why I was asking him if he thinks:

a) it will be legal soon or

b) no states will legalize it until it's federal OR

c) it won't be federal and Alaska will have been the last to do it

@s0nicfan which one is it?

Some state in the Bible Belt will be last to legalize it. I don't think anyone on this board will live to see it legalized federally.

Hopefully I get partial credit for at least admitting I was wrong.

If it makes you feel any better, it was slightly more thought out than throwing a dart at a board. I figured most people would pick the stereotypical Deep South States without much thought, and that the state that elected Sarah Palin couldn't possibly have already legalized recreational marijuana. It's a state that has been solid Republican for a quarter of a century, so I was just as surprised as I'm sure other people were to hear that it was already legal there.

It should probably be federally legalized, but realistically I think you're going to have to see way more States legalize it independently before the federal government jumps in, and that will only be because so many states will be turning a profit on taxes and Washington will want to get in on that action.

Ya hence the topic. Any guesses as to which will be the last? Idaho seems like a good answer so far.

I would say follow the money. Look at the states that have the largest tobacco influence and I would be willing to bet those will be the last to be legalized. The Philip Morris World Headquarters is in Virginia, and a quick Google search shows that Virginia is pretty strict in terms of marijuana possession, so if I had to make a more educated guess I would say Virginia.

It won't matter because any state that's actually the last to legalize it in some form or another (medical or recreational) will just have all their potheads migrate out to literally any of the other 49 states with legal weed to choose from lol
