I liked it a whole lot when it was one of the first anime I had ever seen and I was barely out of being a preteen.

I watched it again a few years back and was shocked by just how terrible it was, to the point that ever since then I've coined the idea of going back to something you enjoyed in your youth and realizing how awful it is as The Elfen Lied Effect amongst my friends.

I got curious while Bryhildr in the Darkness was airing and my only thought was....is this what this guy's stuff is like?

GoT S03 halfway done

Ultraman Netflix Original beated, anime #569 beated!

A few thoughts on Ultraman. The "theme" for this new Ultraman reminds me of the MCU Avenger's theme, and the suit reminds me of Iron Man. I'm disappointed that Moroboshi isn't the actual Ultraseven like the tokusatsu version, same with Ultraman Ace. Looks like Jack is the actual Ultraman Jack though. Bemular's secret identity at the end had me smiling. The entire Hokuto story is bad, which is bad because it's like the entire second half of the season >_>, his motivations and Edo's motivations aren't really clear and there's so many questions and shade thrown out there that will probably never be animated, guess I'll have to read the manga.

Finished reading a cool manga called Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl. I think it's probably the longest yuri manga I've read, with a full ten volumes. It does have a slightly anthology nature, since it follows 7 or 8 couples, but they're all connected to each other, and there's good progression throughout. There's good variety in the relationships too, I think. One of the most interesting ones is polyamorous, which isn't really something I've seen in Japanese content much (not much in western content either, outside of maybe Sense8 and some other things I'm not thinking about). Basically all the relationships have satisfying conclusions, and the progress along the way is great too. It didn't quite blow me away, but it was uniformly excellent. Highly recommend to yuri fans, @pyresword @WhiteLens

I read the Tsurezure Children manga. tl;dr, read the manga if you liked the anime!

Mostly great stuff overall! But I'm not sure if I'd say I like it better than the anime. Some of the couples in the manga that weren't in the anime were really great. The couple that never smiled was amazing, and I really liked the rock band couple too. But some were not so great. The teacher and the student was bad - not just in concept, but also because I didn't like either character. And I felt like there were a few couples where one character was interesting and the other character was almost a blank slate. Many of the manga-exclusive couples were right in the middle - not great, but not bad. Patty and Keisuke was cute at times, but the sushi thing was dumb after the first chapter, and their relationship felt very repetitive. A few of the relationships suffered from the repetition, honestly (which kinda made the anime better, since it was shorter). Some thoughts:

For Yuki Minagawa, I liked her parts with her boyfriend's sister more than the stuff with her boyfriend. Her developing relationship with the sister was awesome.

Ryouko Kaji's developing friendships were excellent too. Loved her stuff with Erika Shibasaki.

Astronomy Club was a little better in the manga than the anime (they should've just cut it from the anime), but not particularly exceptional.

Yamane (frog guy) x Kurihara got a little less interesting later on. Kurihara was almost a complete blank slate in the later chapters.

Other nerd guy got a bit less interesting too, but I liked his facial expressions.

Karate club was kinda cute at times, but I always hate the 'my boyfriend must be strong' cliche. Was good when it wasn't focusing on that.

Ayaka Kamine x Takeru Gouda was consistently good through the whole series. Felt like the rock the series was based on.

Super tsundere glasses x no personality man was pretty eh. I wish he had a personality.

Fat girl x chubby chaser was pretty good early on, but way too drawn out. Would've been fun if she got chubbier throughout the series.

Chiaki x Kana (comedy duo) was awesome throughout. Felt like there was consistent real development and a lot of variety. Chiaki's mom is also one of the funniest characters in the series.

Takano x Sugawara was good until the end, but the slowness of their relationship was painful.

No smile duo was both cute and hilarious. Probably the funniest couple.

Miss Wabisabi's character development through the series was real good too.

Kanda x Takase was mediocre. Their first chapter is incredible, and is also amazing in the anime, and then there's... nothing.

Alice's first chapter where she's super yandere was my favorite, though I liked her in general. Was cool how she was both perceptive and good at distorting reality. I couldn't really cheer on the guy who liked her, but her own development through her interaction with him was quite good.

Love Master x Kitten felt like the anime basically gave us all we needed there. The later chapters with them weren't interesting.

Rapper was mostly good, though the romance parts were kinda undercooked.

Drama girls were weird. Felt like they were going somewhere romantic, then they didn't really at the end? Maybe the author wanted to try lesbians then changed his mind or something. Series probably would've been better without them, though their chapters were alright.

But yeah, cool series in general. The last volume felt pretty nice with all the climaxes!

Hey everyone remember me, I still watch anime sometimes.

I started My Little Monster hoping for a good romance anime. It had potential early on but after seven episodes I feel like the characters are just wasting my time. Like each other at the same time you dumb kids, whenever one of them finally admits their feelings the other goes 'actually, nah', ugh

Maybe I'll finally try My Love Story next, see if that's any better.

Rewatching K-On. Got to season 2 episode 20 and I think my testosterone levels are in the negatives and dropping fast.

Also, just saw the Asobi OVA. I forgot how unholy that show was, and how good the OP and ED were. I'm quite frankly surprised Hanako didn't instigate a school shooting cause that would've been about par for the course. Gotta hope that S2 comes out at some point.

Did people stop torrenting? Even with high quality streaming options available today, even the possibility of a dip in quality is enough for me not to bother. Plus it's honestly so much easier for me to just set up an RSS feed and have everything automatically stored locally just a click away whenever I want it.

Public options have dwindled significantly for every other medium but anime is the one thing I can name that still has a super safe and clean source.

It's died down super hard, and most fansub groups disbanded. It's been seeing a resurgence these last couple years since Netflix started doing their thing and fucking it up, though. The "fansubs" you see nowadays are almost exclusively people just ripping the subs from streaming services.

Toei bringing in new director & character designers for this arc

They've switched up directors a few times, but the current character designer has been around since 2009.

Notice the change in how outlines are drawn and generated, with grain filters used, the same as Toei did with Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

They're serious about Wano, I hope this animation art style stays. It keeps shots more interesting when they are static.
