This is my signature, there are many others like it, but this one is mine.

The core rules of the game were fundamentally and irredeemably broken, so every new mechanic comes with a ton of extra rules baggage that makes the game hard to parse. People who are actively playing as new stuff comes out won't really notice because they can pick things up gradually but for new and long time returning players it's a lot to take in.

Like the poll of the day changing how people play the game to break existing strategies

Which in every instance has trickle down consequences they wanted to change the meta and change the game to make it a bit fresher. Well they castrated a number of lesser styles down the board that had no chance of being meta.

Then ask people to spend money on link cards in a system they broke in order to keep playing. That's the point in which I jumped ship and actually went to the mobile game which was merely in gx content at the time.

other notorious link monsters
Firewall Dragon

annoying xyz
Number 42: Galaxy Tomahawk

limited cards
phantom skyblaster
lady debug
Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon

semi limited
super poly

saryuja skull dread might need to be limited

link monsters aren't really that bad, you can build an old school deck and put a high level link in there if you get a royal flush basically

Envoys broke it first...

A link summon is similar to a fusion summon, it requires a certain number of materials as listed by the card.

When summoned, you can summon it to a special zone in the middle - you can only perform bonus extra deck summons to zones that are pointed to by a link monster (including enemy link monsters)

or something

they're a nice pretty blue colour

By core rules I'm talking about the mechanics that cards can use without adding any text spelling out how they work. That means monsters with blank text boxes and spells/traps with no extra costs or conditions. Boil the game down to the absolute basics and you get:

-Play 1 monster per turn, either summoning a low level monster directly or sacrificing 1-2 other monsters to summon a high level one
-Monsters have 2 combat states, each with 1 relevant stat. All battles are 1v1, highest number wins. Monsters in defense mode can't kill anything
-Play as many spells and traps as you want with no cost, limit of 5 in play at a time

This core system has a lot of problems, most of which become immediately apparent if you've ever tried to play the game using only the simplest cards. Summoning strong monsters requires you to have some in play already, which creates a snowballing effect and puts a huge emphasis on 4-star or lower monsters with high attack. If your opponent plays a monster with higher attack than anything you have, you're in big trouble. Any spell or trap card that creates or removes monsters is incredibly powerful and there's no reason not to put every spell that says "draw a card" into your deck because you can chain them without cost.

The net effect of these issues is that the design space for new yugioh cards without adding more complexity to the game is very small. Tribute summoning snowballs too hard, so modern monsters all need alternate costs so you can "cheat" them into play. Any spell or trap with an effect worth a full card is extremely powerful with no cost, so they all have to have a cost or condition explicitly spelled out on a card-by-card basis. They've addressed this by regularly introducing entirely new ways to summon monsters like xyz/synchro/link stuff and often tie powerful spells to specific archetypes like elemental heroes so one deck can never play a critical mass of them.

when ever people pendulem summon they always summon to the main monster zone
it seems like fusion, synchro and xyz are the only cards affected by this.

I quit YGO because of Pendulum and Link. Those two mechanics completely threw the game upside down. I had been playing YGO since its inception too.
