It's not like Fox is some amazing character, either. Star Fox 64 and the arwing itself is cool. Falco is cool. Fox's dad is cool. The game itself being quotable is cool. Even Slippy's incompetence is adorable in its own way. But Fox? He's kind of lame, and he's been an annoyance in Smash from day one. And he went out there and got 72% in this match, by far the biggest blowout he's ever gotten in these contests

On a personal note, obligatory reminder that Fox is the guy who doubled Pikachu in 2003 and was considered a bigger overachiever than L-Block in 2007.

I dislike toilet humor as much as the next guy, but Wario's games are just so damn good that it becomes a non-issue. At least two of the Wario Land games (II + Shake It) and two of the WarioWare titles (Twisted and Smooth Moves) are genuine masterpieces IMO. I would even include WarioWare Twisted in my top ten ever - that's how much I love that game.

I also emphatically recommend Cuphead and Octopath Traveler, those are two of my favorite games of this gen.

Fox has a special place in my heart as Star Fox 64 was a big part of my childhood. As a kid it took me forever to beat harder sections of that game like the Star Wolf cyborg fight and true andross. So the ending was pretty magic for me as a kid.

This was, by far, the manlist duel of this entire contest. Only Squall vs Garrus was close, but Squall has his spots of being ridiculous. Geralt and Simon don't have this issue. They are the manliest of men and just beat the shit out of each other heads-up with no tricks. It was like watching two heavyweights just throw bombs until someone died.

For about five hours we had a damn good match on our hands, too. Geralt was pretty much this contest's version of an overseeded, overhyped mid major who had all the big conference boys pissed off and playing their hearts out to prove a point (think St. Joseph's in 2004). All his matches were good, and Simon really took it to him early. Simon won the board vote, likely on the back of Smash hype and MANILNESS, and even won the second update. Geralt started pushing back after that, and it seemed like the fun was over.

For the first few hours of this poll, the match was a stone cold tie, with maaaaaybe Simon having a slight advantage. Castlevania also has a very good night vote, so there was a chance Simon would take off at night and pull off one hell of an upset. But as we started getting closer to midnight, Geralt finally decided to make a push and he built himself up a 100 vote lead. Looked over at that point, but Simon made one last push near midnight. Had he been able to put together a night vote he would have had a shot, but it was Geralt that would win things over at night. After a stallfest in the 100s, Geralt opened things up once he broke the 200 barrier and that was all she wrote.

This would become a very familiar trend for Geralt in this contest, and for Simon there was no shame whatsoever in losing. He rode Smash Ultimate hype to giving us two fantastic matches in this contest, and all we ask from people with no chance to actually win the contest is entertainment from their matches. Simon gave us that. Can't complain!

Well call me cheesy but the final James McCloud sequence at the end of the game gets me. I probably just associate all those good feelings WITH Fox even though youre correct, its the Arwing and the game Star Fox 64 thats cool, not Fox himself.

I dunno, CDPR seems pretty intent on getting their boy out there lately. First SC6, then Monster Hunter in like two weeks, all through dimensional portal hopping that's canon to The Witcher series.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him portal hop from MH to another game after, possibly Smash. I love the idea of the guy who hates portals getting stuck portal hopping from game to game trying to get home and getting more and more frustrated in the process.

Not originating in a game seems a much larger obstacle, but at this point I feel like that probably doesn't matter that much anymore, especially for a guy who's way better known in gaming than literature.

I'm sorry but I have to ask, what the absolute christ fuck are you smoking? Weapon durability is a bullshit mechanic in every game it is in. The fact that Nintendo thought it would be a great idea in a ZELDA game is mind boggling.

I think the weapon durability is the one single thing that made me hate this game. I spent more time running around trying to get goblin mallets or whatever other shit weapons, than I did actually exploring and doing dungeons.

I am a noob in the game but Ive found that its really easy to save durability by having an open weapon slot and running into battle with bows or bombs. Enemy will drop their weapon, pick it up and beat their ass.

And on Ulti's manifesto about Blizzard, I agree with a lot of your points, but I thought there was a lot of good in WC3 (mainly the custom game engine and community) and Starcraft 2 was a fantastic game by every measure (well maybe not the anime bullshit the end of LotV turned into, but I digress)
