It kind of is. I mean, I enjoyed it while I was playing it, but once the story was done I had no desire whatsoever to continue and have since forgotten almost everything about it. I don't see myself ever replaying it, either.

you're never railroaded into going anywhere, really. you can do the story at your own pace and there are a ton of sidequests. it's an open world. also ive never seen better writing in a video game.

It's not quite open world. You get more optional places to go through as the main plot progresses. But I don't consider that a bad thing. The way the game is designed and paced is fantastic.

also dantes inferno got mediocre reviews because it was way less fleshed out, had no replayability, and the last 3 levels were just copy/paste gauntlets. still fun tho

Another complaint i have is that the game is so reliant on armor upgrades and i hate how close the camera is zoomed on Kratos. Could they zoom it out during the fights?

Its still a solid game overall, but CE does tend to overrate games. I remember a bunch of people on CE calling Nier Automata the greatest game ever made and yeah its good but i couldnt get into the same way spiderman and GoW did.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm saying it is something that wouldn't appeal to me. What was described, though, sounds like a linear checklist. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but just not my sort of game.

So you there is multiple, world changing options available to you with multiple different outcomes and the possibility to skip or miss entire large segments of the narrative depending on your choices?

I just went and bought a 4k tv specifically for my One X and I only have a regular PS4 cuz I think the Pro isn't worth buying if you already have a base model, especially since I only buy exclusives on it and I still disagree with you. It was a phenomenal game.

I was the most butthurt person on this board when the trailers came out, I thought it was trying to put lipstick on a pig - make a le deep Darks Souls inspired combat game out of a perfectly fine series of schlock. I hit the character limit talking shit about how I thought the game was going to have a cheap and insulting bait and switch where we play as the kid - I hated the very idea of this game. I came within a hair's breadth of betting my account that it was going to be a shit show.

Then it came out, and I watched my friend play it. And honestly? It's pretty tits. It's got respect for the earlier games, and it moves forward with an emotional story that actually fucking works - in a God of War game! I've come around completely on it as an absolute non-believer.

If you feel differently, then that's fine - but I thought it would be worthwhile to chime in as someone who fucking dogpiled on this game from its reveal onwards.

Its praised because it gave the teenage Sony crowd an 80's action hero to run around to murder and fuck people in a video game. You know, the maturity Sony offered to gamers that those kiddy Nintendo games couldnt promise. Deep down, thats where the favorable nostalgia comes from.

We should remember the series for bringing the torch of the beat em up genre into a new generation, but Kratos is so poorly portrayed in the beginning that you cant help but focus on how mindless the premise is nowadays.
