Finally got around to watching The Witch. That was...interesting. Mainly just because from everything I gather, it's super historically accurate insofar as the costumes, the dialogue, etc go

Otherwise, I absolutely love The Witch. It's up there as one of the best to me in terms of horror. It does everything right to me and just gives you such a feeling of dread so constantly. It's super impressive the story they end up telling.

I've mostly just made ranked lists of every movie I've seen in a given year; so far done from 2018-2006

managed to see 64 films from 2018 already (with more planned soon) which is my current record

Yeah, kind of makes me want to expand and do some genre lists too

they use to have little list challenges where everyone would make a list of their top 10 of a given subject/theme/etc., and then they'd compile the top 20 that appeared in the most lists. They haven't run any in a while though

It's blowing my mind that, in the hard cut at the beginning from day to night, there are naked cult people everywhere. I didn't notice that at all and it only became apparent when i saw a youtube comment pointing it out.

A little torn on it to be honest. I feel like there were some great ideas that weren't really followed through on (side plots don't really seem to go anywhere in particular) but the film oozes style and Gyllenhaal is incredible

I loved the visuals of some of the scares, like Toni Colette's one-armed character on the side of the bus, or the girl's phone screen locking on one of Dease's paintings. Also liked the previously-established physical art pieces attacking people. Any time they tried to actually animate one of the paintings, though, I thought it looked kinda silly and cartoonish.

The premise itself was good, and I wonder if the idea is at least partially-inspired by Henry Darger

Just watched Assassination Nation

I don't know what exactly to say. Like, it's not smart, but it thinks it's really smart, but also it's got some surprisingly excellent cinematography and is just more well made than it feels like it should be.

I guarantee it's gonna end up as a pretty big cult movie in a few years
