Just watched both Babysitter movies

The first was a blast. Samara Weaving is incredible and while the movie was super cheesy I really enjoyed watching it

The second wasn't nearly as good as the first, but had plenty of laugh out loud moments, even it logically doesn't make much sense and requires suspension of disbelief more than literally any other movie I've seen (although if I'm being honest the amount they sexualized Melanie was a little uncomfortable having just watched the first Babysitter)

Tbh you shouldn't be thinking that hard about the Babysitter movies. They're best enjoyed as the gorey hilarious nonsense they are.

watched Scare Me tonight

great pick for a fun, spooky night. Very low budget, just a couple people telling spooky stories in a cabin, with most of the style coming from the actors' voice acting and sound effects. Goes back and forth between horror and comedy, and Aya Cash and Josh Ruben are both excellent and totally in their element

House at the End of Time is a solid Venezuelan domestic horror movie. Harkens back to Triangle and The Others.

I pledged to post my thoughts about the entries on jcgamer's top 50 horror movies list I hadn't seen as I watched them, so here's a bit about Ready or Not:

I could point to a few subjective flaws easily enough: Grace could have been a bit more than a blank-slate protagonist meant to serve the story, the movie at times seemed to indulge in profanity almost for the sake of it, and I felt it was rather obvious and inert as an attempt at sociocultural commentary. That being said, I think it pretty much hit all its marks as a funny and scary thrill ride. It roused my emotions in so many directions over its runtime, from the visceral shock of Grace's narrow, bloody escapes and a dumbwaiter crushing a maid to death through the effective comedy of the kitchen scene and the car crash to the uncommonly strong execution of purely dramatic scenes such as the various conversations between Grace and Alex. Weaving's performance in particular was instantly appealing, placing me in Grace's audience-surrogate shoes just as intended and keeping me there through the twists and turns.

I'd 'only' call Ready or Not my third favorite horror movie of 2019 right now (behind The Lighthouse and Us and ahead of Crawl), but that's no reflection on my lack of enjoyment.

Despite the year it is, Genny and I are attempting to watch 2020's horror films. Obviously we watched just about everything up until March happened and then a huge lull. We saw our first film in theaters last week with Freaky.

Typical Blumhouse stuff. Decent to good. I enjoyed it, but definitely felt reminded of slightly better films like Happy Death Day by it as well. We watched His House last night; good stuff. Unique premise and folklore I was unfamiliar with combined with some nice psychological elements. Once we dig through the backlog I'll try to have my rankings for 2020 films complete.

Nice I look forward to that! I've liked most of this year's offerings quite a bit horror-wise.

Ready or Not is a highly enjoyable one but definitely not ground-breaking. It is one of the best lead performances of 2019 however. Surprisingly the recent slate of "game-like" movies have been surprisingly good or at the very least decent, such as Game Night (yeah not horror really but it still fits to me) and Escape Room, even going back a couple of years to Ouija: Origin of Evil. The only really bad stand-out is Truth or Dare.

I went back and watched peridiam's bb20 pre-game interview criticism thing that he did while drunk or whatever

social game

I can vouch for Goblin Sword (action platformer with some light RPG stuff), A Robot Named Fight (metroidvania), and Mechstermination Force (basically Gunstar Heroes), they're all pretty solid games to drop some points on. Undertale is probably the best value you'll get for this price though, if you think it's something you'll like.

Yeah It can be debated I suppose but it has at least thriller elements. I just think the general sense of uneasiness, its disorienting nightmare scenarios, and some key horror references sprinkled throughout does push it in its favor.
