Gaming is a hobby, and hobbies are best shared, some of them anyway. Videogames have the capacity to be one of those things that amplify a friendship or relationship. I want to be able to pick games I know girls like.

Unfortunately, they aren't a market having content created for yet. Telltales and these story based games are a good start, but interactive experiences for two are still lacking. How long do I have to wait until I can play a game that I and my female friends would equally enjoy.

All games can be enjoyed by females as the genders aren't really that different.

Maybe. I would to see more of a presence tbh. A friend of mine like puzzle games and enjoyed the opening cinematic of Wolfenstein 2. I want to share stuff like that with her.

Those results usually involve counting anyone who's ever played a simple mobile or browser game. I'm not here to argue whether they're "gamers" or if those are "real games", but obviously not what most guys who are looking for female gamers are actually looking for.

I want this to change.

My wife can legit kick my ass when we play Civilization Revolution on Xbox. She's savage, and beats me like 80% of the time. She's also damn good at games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Risk.

I recently got her into Forza Horizon 4, never played a racing game in her life, but now she's a level 71 and puts time into it almost every night. I was surprised she took to it like she did, but it's been an addiction of hers here recently.

They include mobile games, so soccer moms that spend 20 minutes on Candy Crush in the waiting room at the doctor's office are now gamers.

I know girls who play The Witcher, Pokemon, Smash, and more. I knew a cheerleader who was big into video games. Silent Hill and Resident Evil were among her favorite series. Its really not that rare to find a girl who plays video games these days.

Personally, I started gaming proper in the late 90s with a friend, we started with the mega drive and snes, then of course n64 ect, many fun times were had lol

I'm the complete opposite.
I always saw gaming as my time. Obviously, I have friends that also play games and I play online with them, but a girlfriend gamer? Probably wouldn't work. For online games that is. I'm (too) competitive and unless she was on my skill level, I wouldn't want to play with her.
And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If I'm bad at some game, I wouldn't want to play with people that are way better with me where I can't hold my own.

Just stop calling humans "male and female" like they're animals in a zoo. It's really weird and off-putting. We're not in a military setting, so don't try to argue for that context either.

I got gold cups on 150cc/mirror/200cc MK8 Deluxe and my wife still kicks my ass to make shit worse she just picks the cars and characters based on looks not even the stats....I can't even play online with her because I end up losing rank against her but I still do and no I'm not going easy on her I've even gotten to the point where I just try to sabotage her by only hitting her and it's useless....

It's not gatekeeping, it's pointing out the obvious differences between two different categories of games with completely different design philosophies and markets. It's simply pointless to call someone "a gamer" if all they play is Candy Crush and Farmville to kill 15 minutes. That's not an enthusiast hobby. That doesn't put them into any sort of hobby culture, they're just regular people killing time. Now if they do make an enthusiast hobby out of it and dedicate significant free time to it, then they're a "mobile gamer". The same goes for people who very lightly play console/PC games. You're just some schmoe killing time.

It's disingenuous and purely semantic to include mobile gamers in a discussion that slants to the sensibilities, culture, habits, and consumer decisions of PC/console gamers.

People are just trying to be inclusive by deliberately misinterpreting data.
