They do, they just keep it on the down low I guess. They'll usually get into the puzzle games or RPG's. You might notice how many of those types of game are mobile - it's not like that's done for no reason. Women are comfortable playing games, but a lot of times they don't wanna be seen as that type of gamer that has their own console setup at home and is going at shooters etc. - besides, a lot of console-oriented games lean to a testosterone user-base anyway. But women have always been fairly down with handheld devices and (now) phones to play some time away. Why that is though, I really don't know. Perhaps it's just more convenient and they like that. Or, like I started out with - they can just keep it sort of secret that they're a gamer.

My aunt used to take us to the arcades.

We won tickets at Chuck E. Cheese and Bullwinkle.

My cousins and friends went to each other's houses and played the NES, Sega Genesis and SNES.

My mother used to play computer games and the NES with me.

My daughter plays on the Classics, the GBA, her DS, her 2DS and WiiU.

My younger cousins love to get together and play.

But according to @Teddytalks we don't exist. Keep trollin Teddy!

I know a lot of women who are more willing to table-top game than video game.

Of the women I know that have an interest video games, the majority seem to latch on to certain series in particular, primarily due to character designs, and then participate in the meme culture or fan art culture rather than playing the games themselves.

In my lifetime I have encountered 1 woman IRL that has played most of the Soulsborne games to completion.

its a great time for vidyagames. it used to be such a small community and now thrives every day because different people are playing games.

how can players experience immersive gameplay? each player plays with their imagination and utilize their problem solving skills alone first. each game has a system to allow this to happen. this allows new players to absorb as much information they can from the game. this does that, that does this, those stay there, etc...

think about whats the difference between a new player and an experienced player? well, its knowledge. they know or they dont.

new players are absorbing a lot and are often pushed to do things accordingly bypassing the journey of developing certain skills and wisdom from the game. for example, backseat players commanding new players to do things in game. it will sap the joy out of playing. nobody wants that kind of parrot gameplay.

My younger sister used to watch me play video games all the time when we were younger.

She'd watch me go through a variety of stuff like Resident Evil, some JRPGs, shooters, etc. etc.

She would occasionally play herself too.

However when she got a little older (like entering teens) she 100% lost all interest in any video games.

My sister is a weird example. She doesn't play enough to even be classified as "casual." But, we grew up playing the SNES and N64 so I've seen her pick up games like Super Meat Boy and Spelunky and get really into them and competitive.

Nearly all my friends are female. None play videogames. This is not stereotyping, but an observation. Hell, barely any female content creators for games at all.

All my friends are female. I grew up with women. Here is what I seen .

My aunt used to play Sega when she was younger

My older sister play fallout and the rest of the traditional core games

My younger sister is like my older sister.

....... That's it for the girls I know that play videogames. All my friends do not play, and they are all females. You will have a hell of a time coming across girls online in most core experiences (Online FPS, Etc), and see to be almost purely male dominated.

It because be because of rampant sexism, or pure marketing. There is also barely any female content creators. Pointing this fact out do not make me a troll. Or is it? Would it be trolling if I say women are physically weaker than men on average too?
