While Shankar didn't give us any specifics in terms of what this all means for the series' overall story, he did inform us that he "acquired these (Devil May Cry) rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood dont f*** this one up too." Shankar's financial investment should allow him more creative freedom, as he begins to build this wildly ambitious multiverse of his.

I'm on board.

I'm keeping my expectations at zero but Castlevania was really fucking good and Shankar has proven he's at least smart and passionate when it comes to games so uh, here's hoping for the best!

I have way too much apprehension and pessimism regarding studios that develop one great project and then spread themselves too thin and end up ruining a bunch of things instead of just making one good thing

I agree DmC is pretty underrated. If it was its own stand alone property that was just a DMC knockoff rather than trying to replace the DMC classics with garbage I'd probably even like it more than just a little. The gameplay is good and I kinda like what it was trying to do with the story if the dialogue and acting wasn't so cringey

I like to talk shit on it but I actually did enjoy DmC as an action game, though I had some major issues with its design (that are apparently fixed in the definitive edition!) Obviously it's nowhere near as good as DMC3/4 but as Lopen said it's a pretty darn good action game in its own right.

Obviously the story/writing is shit but that only means so much in this kind of action game for me.

Agree it's not touching DMC3 or 4 though, even talking purely gameplay. I'd put NG1 and NG2 above it there too. Might legit be my 5th favorite action game gameplay though. I'll take it over your God of Wars and such all day

I just can't get over my problems with DMC4. Mechanically it's in incredible, but the structure is so terrible, the story is shit, Nero is a loser in it...I put DmC over it pretty easily.

But this is from a guy who sees something like Bloody Palace and scoffs. When I beat a game I'm done with it. I'm not even interested in replaying it with the other characters.

Maybe if I was more into the whole "mastering" scene I'd be singing a different tune, but as far as a one time through face value playthrough I don't consider them even close.

The story and characters and cutscenes are so horrifically bad that it combined with the mediocre gameplay drags it down so very far. Compared to DMC4, where all the characters are super fun to play AND some of the best cutscenes in the series are in there (like the one with Dante and Agnus). Of course then you have DMC4SE, which is just so good it's actually not fair.

Funny you mention the only DMC4 cutscene I think is good.

I quite liked DmC's presentation. I'd say Barbas might be one of the most entertaining set pieces I've seen in any game!
