In this contest, there is only Nintendo. I love Nintendo, but non-Nintendo characters who used to score well against the N9 are practically jobbing out. Squall/Vincent/Tifa used to be the argument for 10th best. As it stands the old standard of Cloud as #2 is Cloud #3-6.

In the past, rallies at least made things interesting, but they got the double hammer in that no one cares anymore and if they did they only got half a vote anyway.

Way to kill the contests forever, SBAllen. Good job, you made sure the least amount of people could care. That's how you revitalize the failing business you're in charge of. Alienate existing users and tell potential new ones they aren't worth as much.

Well, this contest has got a bit of a twist. Now it's about guessing the Nintendo tiers. For example, Aeris beat Waluigi and Fox. But she'll get smoked by Zelda.

But today's results make the whole thing just sad. Vivi beat Mario a few years ago, and is now losing to a much less popular Nintendo character. Zero losing to Pikachu, particularly when pokemon are not doing that well this time around (Bowser beat Charizard by a lot, Tifa beat Mewtwo by a lot), shows that almost everything non-Nintendo has fallen off a cliff.

Maybe if "outsider" votes weren't deemed half as worthy, some new blood could have had a chance. That's the worst decision put into this contest. There is no reason to weigh user votes over outsiders.

And if no rally ever happened, and you get rid of that that double value to registered users... how many matches change?

But this site needs new blood, and telling a new person they only get half a vote? That doesn't win new people.

And I am not going to go over those numbers because I don't consider them invalid, but when outsiders only have essentially half a vote can you ever really know how many people didn't bother because they were treated as less-than?

I'm not saying under the current system that the results are wrong. I'm saying under the current system they're right. But the system is wrong.

Every vote should be counted equal, and there could be a lot of people who saw their votes weren't equal so they didn't reach out to others and didn't themselves continue to vote because it's a rigged system. Who would want to participate in a system where some people have twice the power in popular vote as they do?

Honestly, though, the basic premise of this topic is false.

Match 91 picks in Guru, broken down beyond just who was picked to win:

Tifa > Mewtwo: 101 (63.125%)
Mewtwo > Tifa: 45 (28.125%)
Tifa > GLaDOS: 11 (6.875%)
Mewtwo > Geno: 2 (1.25%)
GLaDOS > Geno: 1 (0.625%)

Third digit included to prevent rounding errors, since the number of Gurus this year is a very round 160.

But in summary, 70% of all Gurus had Tifa winning, and 69.18% of Gurus who had both Tifa and Mewtwo winning in Round 1.

That said, the Mewtwo supporters had greater faith in his ability to defeat X.

MMX > Tifa: 59
Tifa > MMX: 53
Mewtwo > MMX: 28
MMX > Mewtwo: 19
MMX > GLaDOS: 1

Yes, MMX was a unanimous pick to win his fourpack. Add it all up and you'll see 79 for MMX, 81 against--which means that the only character with a "retention rate" above 50% in that match was Mewtwo. (Though because MMX was favored in the cookie matchup, I'd still call him the favorite. It's not like that FFVII/RBY/SM64 situation in 2015, where it was clear that the winner of RBY/SM64 was a slight favorite over FFVII, but because RBY/SM64 was itself so debated, FFVII ended up as the cookie pick.)
