I'm not sure about Mario but there is a chance of her beating several of them. Especially Cloud and Sephiroth because lolFF.

I'm not saying Zelda hasn't boosted. I could definitely see her threatening Sonic at this point, but I'm of the opinion that her dominant results so far say as much about her opponents as they do about Zelda herself.

We will have to wait and see what the effects of the champions bracket are

Some characters can build up steam over time, especially if they haven't placed highly in the past

Yes and no. Rather, it showed that it is legitimately the #3 Zelda game on this site. Since both of the two ahead of it were from the nineties, it took on the mantle of "series flagship" for GotD.

I would not be remotely surprised if Breath of the Wild wins GotD in 2020. Normally with this being NostalgiaFAQs, you'd assume that a game from 2010 or 2011 would be favored, but BotW was intentionally designed to be a throwback to the earliest games in the series.

Given Bacon's tendency for setting up potential SFF matches in Games Contests, I wouldn't be surprised if BotW and ALBW were in the same region, and I think that could be quite interesting, because while BotW has the advantage of being on a console, it's a throwback to the first Zelda game, while ALBW is a throwback to ALttP. And as we all know, SNES > notSNES.
