Oh absolutely. I know tons of millennials that have conservative views but when people, in general, think "millennial," they think liberal. There's a certain stereotype that comes with the millennial tag.

It's mostly bullshit pop sociology anyway, and it hasn't really been accurate for decades.

The accelerating pace of pop culture and greater penetration of media and information means that 20-30 year wide cohorts are basically meaningless. At this point, saying "I'm an 80s kid" or "I'm a 90s kid" conveys far more and far more accurate information than any attempt to classify someone as a millennial.

Don't sugarcoat it or anything...

I know some ok people who fall into that range. That's why I keep saying I don't understand these generation terms. Maybe they alter the dates because people don't want to be a millennial to avoid the negative impression.

Supposedly, millennial is anyone born in 1982 onward to some other year. Because they turn 18 in the year 2000, the word "millennial" is used. The dates seem really arbitrary to me though. Like, I guess the cutoff year could be 1997 to make every generation 15 years, but why would you start the generation in 1982? Wouldn't it be easier to track if it were 1980 or 1985?

Each generation is bound to have its share of hard working citizens, dead beats, and in-betweens. The various negative impressions I feel is next to pointless. I know some Scouts who are 19-20 years old who I feel have already done more in their lives than some 40+ years old. Rather than judging a generation as a whole why don't we judge the individual on his/her merits instead of his/her peers?

I thought it was just reaching adult around the millennium instead of being 18 right at 2000. So it could be a little before, as well...

That's kinda where I was going. Millennial has become a term rather than a description of a generation, if that makes sense. So you hear 1980, 1982, maybe 85 onward, anyone who grew up in the 90's, I don't know what the official range is. Not that it matters since I don't fit any normal definitions. Ha.

More importantly, there's the variance in birth rate. Some boomers are great-grandparents, other boomers are just parents. The whole system kinda arose from the idea that there was a baby rush so a large cohort was born at once.

And even 80s kid vs 90s kid has different connotations, depending on arbitrary cutoffs.
