I think the four match format actually is more likely to help Ike than Phoenix. He's probably more widely known due to Smash, so he should be getting the benefit of the voters who are being forced to vote in a match they would have sat out.

Not sure if I agree on new DK games being irrelevant.

You have to understand one thing: before 2010, the last mainline DK games was DKC3. That's in like 1996. And that's not even an universally liked game. You'd have to look at DKC2 for it.

DK64 is liked by most but it's not a real DK game, it's Banjo-Kazooie 1.5. And Jungle Beat is like... Guitar Hero with platforming? Dunno.

For 15 years DK was just that guy who kept appearing at Mario Party and Mario Kart. Heck, I think they even removed him as a playable character from Mario Party at some point? (The disrespect!)

Then DKCR hit and it was huge! It was just like the old games. A true series revival. And the next contest we had after that was 2013. Where DK overperformed (people attributed it to Lightning sucking but maybe she doesn't suck that much?).

So yeah I give it Smash boost and Nintendo boost and pic factor and whatever, but DKCR is the series revival he always needed. Before that he was basically Fox, except Fox actually got a real game in the N64.

As of right now, I have just started listening to this episode.

What I love about that World of Light trailer, besides Kirby, is that everyone gets decimated even when they try protect themselves. Except Link. He's the only one who takes multiple hits before going down and is able to block the beams when everyone else couldn't. Your champion is here.

What do you mean you don't know what I'm on about?

I mean that this type of contest, where wild things are happening but it's still largely transitive and it's GameFAQs deciding its own contest as opposed to a horde of off-site people coming, voting for their thing, and then fucking off back to reddit.

Final Fantasy VII getting its final 2 characters chopped off in a Games Contest (being listed as "Final Fantasy V" instead) in an effort to shorten the names will never happen. In the last Games Contest, the name of the games weren't even listed on the voting form and you only had the match picture for voters to identify the games in each match. Although you could still hover over the match picture to display the name of the game.

Let's not blame Big Boss's big loss next round on just the picture. A lot of the same mistakes that happened to Kingdom Hearts to allow Red to advance, are also happening to MGS right now. Konami and Square are both kind of earning their losses to Pokemon Trainer Red with their hubris.

I believe he was taking the long view. SND likes how rallies blew votals to high heaven, attracted outside interest, exposed the site to a new audience. ExTha's saying what's the point, when none of them stick around past the championship match. They might have helped out SB a little by generating more ad views for a month, but is that worth having someone else decide who wins our bracket?

Yea that's true Yo. You are right about that one...

Low Vote totals+ lack of controversy and drama is what has made the contest disappointing so far. It's been very safe, OBJECTION(ha)-free, and calm overall. You can't have that in 2018. No rallies in an environment of severely depressed vote totals(9.3k user votes in the most recent match(counted double), 10k normal, so about 20k overall raw votes) is just sad.

Even back in 2011, during Rivalry Rumble, which is commonly regarded as one of the worst contests ever(and it's true, contest sucked bad), matches were getting around 48k raw votes total. More than double the raw votes of this contest. Here's an example:



I think... you guys kind of forget what it's like to be a first-timer for these contests. A casual, someone following the contest for the first time.
