....who not-so-coincidentally Democrats target as well. It's almost like most taxes wind up on the backs of the middle class or something. That said, tax burdens tend to be lower under republicans because they're more likely to cut government spending and less likely to spend on entitlements.

TC, do you understand that by implementing the latest round of tax cuts, this current administration has opened the possibility of cutting entitlements? They havent openly talked about it yet because they dont want to harm their chances in the midterm elections, but youll see. After the elections, theyre gonna call for entitlement cuts.

This directly puts big financial burden on you, me, and the rest of the 99% of the population that needs entitlements. There is statistically 1% of the population that would be fine with these cuts, and theyre also the ones who benefitted most (by far) from the recently-implemented tax cuts. For example, Berkshire Hathaway was bringing in about $15bn/year before the cuts. Now? Theyre bringing in $30bn. So, where does the government get this money that it now isnt getting from Warren Buffet and all the others like him? Us! Common folk! The 99%!

These tax cuts will gut us. Right now, you might not see it. But remember this my friend. In 10 years, when entitlements are trash and all the social security that youve paid into is worthless, remember what Im saying. Its gonna hurt you, its gonna hurt me, and its gonna hurt almost everyone else.

...lol, the burden is on the people who pay the taxes to support those entitlements. Meanwhile the people who reap the most benefits from entitlements aren't the ones paying taxes.

Not sure if you're doing a parody or something, but social security is a FEDERAL program and therefore unaffected by your state's program. And given that it's an unsustainable program, it's hurting taxpayers (ie, people who aren't you) right *now* and who aren't going to receive those benefits down the road.

Im talking about Illinois, not the whole country. In Illinois the Democrats are a corruption machine. They love to raise taxes and make new ones, like the pop tax that everyone got screwed with in cook county, and now they want to bring it back, despite the hatred for it the first time.

It's like people forget that Illinois, one of the bluest states in the country, is known for shady politics

Isn't this one of those cases where it doesn't really matter what anyone in Illinois actually thinks, because Chicago has enough population to basically strong-arm the results in every single state or federal-level election? And Chicago, like most urban areas, knee-jerk vote Democrat almost without thinking about it?

That's something most New Yorkers outside of NYC constantly complain about, and why voting in NJ is pretty much meaningless (the parts of the state tied to NYC and Philly are urban and would vote for Hitler if he ran as a Democrat).

I'd assume Chicago and its greater metropolitan area strongly sways the entire vote in Illinois. Especially since, after looking it up, it's like 80% of the entire state's population.

People have short memories. A good chunk of this board probably watched the Daily Show's coverage of when Illinois's former governor tried to sell Obama's vacated senate seat to the highest bidder and yet today they likely don't remember the incident.

It was Rauner that overturned his veto to increase income taxes, not the corrupt Democrats

He's the one that wanted the dumb ass pop tax, not the corrupt Democrats

You say it's Rauner's fault but the issues existed way before him and there were more problems with the Democrats than him during his term

I didn't even vote for Rauner

Exactly. That's why you should never elect the exact same political party (assuming, of course, the exact same conditions as you voted them in the first time and counting on nothing changing in terms of who else gets elected, what the population believes, and, of course, what's going on in the world at the time) and expect different results.

If you're using a blind chance analogy, instead of talking about a coin flip you should be comparing it to Mega Millions. You can buy plenty of tickets, but the odds are always going to be against you. And when one party knows that it's going to win no matter what (which is apparently Mead's ideal system), there's little incentive to change.
