The Republicans should have a permanent majority of 55+ seats in the Senate from their advantage in small states, it's more surprising that this hasnt happened yet.

This is surprisingly insightful no offense.

The Senate is basically impossible for Democrats to hold ever with the current rural/urban divide.

I'm okay with House for dems and Senate for republicans. Washington gridlock unless those assholes work together is always a net benefit for the average person.

I actually kind of agree with this tbqh. I feel much better with a divided legislature because terrible ideas can't be rammed through congress anymore.

Eh, taking the House and some governorships wasn't a bad night for Dems. It was less a blue wave and more a blue slow moving stream but you gotta take victories where you can.

So long as states like Idaho and South Dakota have equal power in the senate as states like California and New York, it should be completely impossible for the dems to win the senate in the current political climate, which isn't about to change any time soon

The senate is completely broken

House projections are also back up to 538s original projections of +mid 30s.

I don't think it's as much of a doomed situation as it seems. This is pretty similar to the idea that Rs are doomed longterm because of shifting demographics; it turns Rs can still win in increasingly diverse areas (e.g. Florida) as long as the minority populations become more Republican. Similarly, Dems are only fucked longterm in the Senate if the current coalitions remain as they are. I wouldn't be surprised if non-college whites started to swing back towards the Dems if something like another recession happens soon, for instance.

Kansas got absolutely destroyed by their last governor so it isn't a total shock for it to go blue. But Kansas was sort of one of my stretch governor hopes and yet she pulled it out while FL/OH (which I thought would be a lot easier) did not.

Re Pelosi, one scenario I've seen brought up (and that I think seems likely given that it seems Dems aren't going to have a huge majority) is that she'll be made leader again with the understanding that it's in an interim capacity while she gets a successor up to speed.
