Also to be fair we've had inanimate objects serve as entrants in these contests. Why does this bother you so much in that case?

This is just a fun little exercise being run on a single corner of the interwebs. Not some serious competition to determine WHO IS THE BEST CHARACTER.

Lets not pretend that we shouldnt take these contests seriously. We all do here. And I hate those joke characters as much as the next guy.

As for Samus and Dark Samus. In no way should Dark Samus be included either.

Dark Samus is also a different person, it wouldn't be wrong if she were included.

Mario is the lead character in his games. Protects Peach, murks Bowser, etc. Hes short, fat, and red. Luigi is the sidekick. He fights ghosts. Hes tall, slender, and green. These two are easily seen as different.

MM is small and blue. MMX is taller, thinner, older looking, and more ornate. They aren't AS visually distinct as Mario and Luigi, but they can be told apart. The difference in their powers is roughly equivalent to Mario and Luigi pre-Luigi's Mansion when Luigi started doing ghost things (or Ryu and Ken even now!). They were created by the same person, but Mario and Luigi were created by the same parents.

The attempts of downplaying the similarities of MM an MMX, while overplaying the similarities of characters X and Y are feeble attempts of smoke and mirrors.

I think the only thing that matters here is they ARE different characters and thats the end of it.

Hell, Dante and Nero both made it in 2008 despite having nearly the exact same design down to a T; it was enough for Nero to win one round

Wasnt there a canon episode of a cartoon or comic, where Mega Man met X, and they actually didnt like each other ?

I could swear I remember seeing that. X came back in time to hunt a rogue maverick that hadnt turn evil (but was going to very soon) and Megaman wanted to protect it, and they eventually fought with X completely stomping out Megaman before destroying the Maverick...

Yeah, there was. It was that cartoon. I don't think it's canon to the games though.

Mega Man, the blue bomber, is the hero of the classic series.

X is the hero of the X series. I agree that Link is kinda fishy but do we want 10 Links dominating the bracket?

To be fair Links are carbon copies, while also reincarations and for most of the time have been kept ambiguous by Nintendo so we didn't even know which games had the same Links. They are also audience surrogates so they don't have distinct personalities.

X seems to be an effort to make something different than MM.

it bothers me that he's in because his name is presented as mega man x

i feel that MM himself already benefits from the MMX series, so i actually agree a lot with the link comparison - WW link is explicitly different from OOT link for example

if X starred in a series with a different name, i wouldn't feel this way

also completely unrelated, i find it surprising that X is weaker than MM

Is different "incarnation" of the same character considered a different character?
I mean, is DMC 1-5 Dante the same as DmC Dante?
Is Lara from the Trinity Trilogy the same Lara from the old games?

They are not, but they share the same name, thus we are actually voting for a character with that name

Mega Man and Mega Man X not only are two different robots, but also have different names!

I have mega man winning my favorites bracket but X losing in the first round to isabelle. They're completely different characters to me

Mega Man, the original, aka Rock Light, is a fully different character than Mega Man X. X is normally referred to in his games as just that, X.

Mega Man and X are even differentiated in crossovers, like Smash Bros- X and Mega Man have separate trophies.

if they were combined and he sometimes got X pics like Link sometimes got WW pics i'd be fine with it. but since he never got X pics, X really needed to be in separately.

Yes they are different people.

After really keeping an opened mind and reflecting on each post, not only should MMX be banned but Links totals should be decreased by 30%; 5% for each different games photo thats been used for him.

I wonder how much weaker if MMX was just referred to as X in the contest.
