Catbox Creative is teaming up with 07th Expansion, Witch Hunt Translation Group, MangaGamer, and Sound Cadence Studios to bring an updated version of the visual novel Umineko When They Cry to Western audiences.

Officially called Umineko When They Cry: Gold Edition, this version of the Steam game includes the following new features:

Full in-game voice acting, featuring an official North American cast approved by original series creator, Ryukishi07.

A Graphics Update, adding the option to play the game on Steam with graphics from the PS3 games Rondo of the Witch and Reasoning and Nocturne of Truth and Illusions."

New content directly from Ryukishi07.

Additionally, a fully voiced, dramatized audiobook of the novel, called "Voices of Rokkenjima," will be released as a free podcast series on iTunes.
Catbox Creative will be hosting a crowdfunding campaign for the Gold Edition via Kickstarter from November 7th, 2018 to December 7th, 2018.

If the Kickstarter is funded, all owners of the Steam version of Umineko When They Cry will have access to the contents of Gold Edition as a free update. Depending on the success of the campaign, additional features and new content may also be unlocked.

As a reward for supporting the Kickstarter, backers will be able to obtain new official Umineko merchandise, dependent upon their pledge tier. Depending on the success of the campaign, more merchandise rewards may also be unlocked.

A preview of the dramatized audiobook has been released as a proof-of-concept video teasing the new English cast from the game and the English version of the song "One Winged Bird" ("Katayoku no Tori," by Akiko Shikata).

Where's it say it'll have Japanese voice acting? While I'm happy about this regardless, I only see confirmation that it'll have English voice acting.

Japanese VA is definitely still possible (it exists in the version they're porting the art from, after all), but I wouldn't assume it's a definite thing unless they've confirmed it, since that'd usually mean additional costs.

I know nothing about these. I will pledge if there is a PS4 stretch goal. I will withdraw if it does not appear it will reach that goal.

I don't mean that disparagingly, I mean that a lot of the ones I've seen are youtubers (fake edit: The lady who sings the OP is a youtuber too, even)

This isn't necessarily a bad thing though - if you've played Trails of Cold Steel, the guy who voiced the MC (Sean Chiplock) was a youtuber before that game and he's shown he has pretty solid range over time. I'm just surprised Ryukishi07 signed off on it given that.

I googled Sean Chiplock, and the very first thing I see is a tweet from him he just tweeted about coming to my relatively small town for a convention.
