Everyone is just so down on the DLC already when in 4 they did some of their biggest fan services in their DLC. (And then a new fire emblem)

I dont think it will be a new pokemon because there isnt a new pokemon generation unless we get a random one from the only gen missing. And there isn't another generation fire emblem game out so I think that will eliminate fire emblem too. So short of copyright problems the possibilities are still very large.

That, and tons of people don't like Incineroar at all. For example the reaction to Incineroar's original reveal was pretty bad. Really he's 0 for 2 on reveals so far.

no way. Whoever ok's the Pokemon that get into Smash and other games is usually pretty good at giving the people what they want. Not exactly what they want, but they always try to be "mascot" pokemon. The dumb metal thing is in no way a mascot pokemon.

I think some of the disappointment is still their fault. When you see the order they picked to reveal the newcomers, they really could've done a better job to keep the hype rolling. Obviously still lead with Ridley as a huge name to start the hype train, but then get Incineroar and Isabelle out of the way earlier on to leave some of the bigger names for later. Perhaps end the September direct with K. Rool and then have Simon/Richter as a big thing for today's final direct.

Also deconfirm Isaac and Shadow as ATs at like E3 or something so they're not toying with people's hopes.

Yeah this is a big part of it. They knew the characters were highly-requested. Why mess with people? They didn't even deconfirm Skull Kid on-screen, which is nuts.

This is actually pretty false.

Those people that did a pretty comprehensive look at character requests during the ballot, taking into account polls, talk on large forums, Twitter and Facebook trends, and so on, had results where Geno barely finished in the top 10 and Isaac barely finished in the top 20.

The only reason they seemed higher/more desired lately is because people already got their first and second and third choices between the 4 DLC and Ultimate.

The DLC picks have likely already been finalized and the pre-production ideas put into place even if the actual main work hasn't started. I'd be very surprised if they put in Rex in considering the timing of everything.

I think you are mixing up popularity here with popularity in Japan. At least, for Incineroar and Isabelle.

They had a Corrin trailer ready to show off only six months after Fire Emblem Fates' release, so you can't tell me there wasn't enough time to make a XC2 character as DLC over a year after that game's release.

I'm kinda with nanis- the leak got me a bit hyped for a big number even though I didn't care much about most of em. I'm apparently the only one who actually wants incineroar, so that's hype, but i also really wanted geno, so that's kinda a wash.

Spirits and light thingy look fun though

.... kinda wanted a smash run/ tour type thing though and looks like no dice. I feel like all star might be a downgrade too?

They were all wrong except for Vergeben, who nobody really has any idea how he actually gets his info. Like, completely wrong. The only thing they were "right" about were the leak being fake, but they all said stuff like "Because it doesn't contain other characters that were in" and specifically never named names for plausible deniability.

Okay so here is my peace.

The biggest draw for me in Smash Bros. always has been and always will be the new characters. And even in the past when I didnt get what I wanted, I was still excited for the new ones that we DID get. That's simply not the case this time. In Brawl and 4 I was so pumped every time we got a new character because they looked interesting. Even though they weren't the characters I wanted, I gazed and gawked at all the new photos, I watched the trailers a hundred times over, because I felt the characters were truly adding to the game. And I even found new love for some characters just seeing them revealed for Smash. I never knew I wanted Rosalina until I saw her in action, and lo and behold I ended up maining her. I never knew I wanted Shulk until the fanboys convinced me to go through hell and high water to find a copy of Xenoblade and the game was AMAZING. This time I dont see anybody that intrigues me all that much as a character or a fighter. The face I'm happiest to see is Chrom, an echo of an existing character, and the fighter I'm most interested in is... I guess Inkling.

The rest seem wholly uninteresting to me and two of the characters I actively despise. I'll probably still pick it up because I'm a sucker, but I wont be standing in line at midnight, taking the day off to play it for 24 hours, hell I might not even care enough to pick it up on release date. I still dont have MK8 Deluxe, and that's what this is to me - Smash 4 Deluxe.

The worst part definitely was the hype surrounding Isaac in the past week. That was like a pick-me-up into a body slam when I REALLY needed a pick-me-up lately in my life. This is hardly the worst of my problems. I'll get over it. But for today I'm allowed to be sad.

Congrats by the way to those who got the character(s) they wanted.
