I do live on my own. It's phenomenal.

I got home from work today, took my shirt off and put on shorts, and there's nobody around to judge me for living the life of comfort.

I bounce around each day. Sometimes not having someone in the same room as me is nice, sometimes it's not as relaxing as I want.

I've wondered if actual loneliness has been negated by easy access to the internet. You still get to 'socialize' without all the hours of getting ready, getting there, coming home tired, or worse getting drunk and knocked up.

Instead when you've had enough you simply sign out.

No. And the people who tend to get lonely by themselves are often the same kind of people who have other issues when they live with others.

Yes, it's immensely freeing.

Supposedly people who spend more time online are more likely to report feelings of isolation and loneliness than the general people. Granted, it's possibly a correlation not causation kind of thing.

My pets do help me feel less lonely when I am alone...

I do that with roommates...

That's a good reason, though...

I think it can help, but still isn't the same...

In the end, it can be good, but I would rather not be alone...

No. No matter how much I like my solitude living alone would be terrible and I'd get even less human interaction than I do now. I do need some human interaction at times to stop myself going insane.

Yes. Although with that said I kinda already do at times.

I use to live by myself. The only thing that sucked was buying groceries, being broke because of rent/bills/groceries, but the solitude was great because fuck people! Especially passive aggressive family members that come visit and fling insults at you every chance they get.

Eventually I moved back in with my parents and I have more money to spend on shit now, so its not that bad.

Yes, I love living by myself. I did so for just over a year, about half a year back. I have a great roommate for the first time since I was 19 (age 27 now), although I should really include my whole life, as my parents are pretty poor roommates.

Most people are disgusting and disorganized. I am quite antisocial, but if I do require interaction, I like being able to invite people over to my personal space. Or visit them. Any which way, it's 100000000 times better.

Married for 30 years, alone for 18, I really enjoy alone. I do what I want, on my own schedule, don't have to adapt to anyone else. An occasional houseguest is fun, or staying with son/daughter-in-law/grandkids for a few days, but it's good to be alone.

For me its a case of I want both but don't see a happy medium.

Talking to people over the internet just isn't the same as even over the phone let alone face to face.

The perfect but completely unlikely scenario for me would be living next door to someone I enjoyed spending time with.

I lived on my own for three months and it was terribly lonely. Coming home to a place with no other souls around consistently, night after night, it gets depressing. Even if it's just a roommate I barely talk to, I find it's much better to have someone else around.

I am turning 40 years old next year, and I have lived alone for the last 18 years. The only time I ever had roommates was during college. I much prefer living alone. I have never been married, and I never plan to get married. I don't have kids, and I don't want kids. I value my independence far more than ever getting married and having kids. Living alone allows me to do whatever I want when I want.
