Does anyone have any theory as to why Pikachu was seeded so low? I feel bad Scorpion got fed into him. Scorpion could have probably beaten plenty of first round fodder we will see this year.

Yes, this is the only good response in this topic. I recognize the "whiner's seconds game" at work in most of these responses, but this looks like an actual question. And this is the proper answer: Pokmon has a lot of characters, which means they tend to split nominations. For more on the effects of nomination splitting, see here:

For some unexplained reason, CJayC set up the nomination form such that you were allowed one nomination per system. This meant that PC games were vastly underseeded, because you had decades of PC games all competing for nominations while other systems had only a few years' worth of games, not to mention systems that really had no business getting any games in the bracket were able to sneak some in due to their libraries having little competition.

Biggest example of the former. StarCraft being the lower seed isn't itself surprising, but that's hardly a 1-16 type of match--except the original XBox was still the current one, so there were only 2.5 years worth of XBox games.

If you stick around here long enough, you'll probably hear people talk about "Tanner levels of fodder." Tanner at least managed to break 5% in his match, and that was a 2-15. This was a 14-seed failing to break 5%. It is the single most lopsided 1v1 match ever. But, hey, what else were you going to nominate from the Atari 2600?

This was the answer I was looking for. I have been an occasional user on this site for a while, and I always assumed the seeds were determined by the founder's personal preferences.

Guys, please don't use the whiner seconds game or other stupid shit for legitimate questions from people with legitimate questions that want to actually know more about our contests. It's embarrassing.

Has any character besides those from Pokemon gained as much strength as they have? I don't even think Pikachu made some of the contests. I began paying attention to these around 2005 and Pikachu wasn't in that one I think.
