Board 8 > Whomst has a Switch and is getting Smash Ultimate and wants to do B8 tourneys?

It was early 2008 when Smash Bros. Brawl came out featuring online Smash for the first time ever. Ignore Nintendo's blatant failure at setting up competent online and their inability to learn from the mistakes of a decade ago.

What was important is that the early 08 Brawl days were some of the greatest times to be a Board 8er. We had a dedicated Smash community where you could ON THE DAILY find yourself in online brawls against other B8ers of varying skill levels. We had tournaments, we had Crew battles, we even had a draft at one point I think.

Smash 4 for the Wii U and 3DS never quite got to that level of popularity despite being a better game and Nintendo offering slightly better online. That's probably because most of us were older and had less time to game like we did back in 07, but also has something to do with the Wii U being an overlooked system for a variety.

The Switch seems to be more successful. I know I've got mine almost fully paid off despite protesting that I would literally never buy another Nintendo system again (whoops). I want to see what the rest of Board 8 thinks, see if we could recapture some of that magic from the early days of Brawl.

Novice player, but I'd almost certainly want to participate. Going to be making an effort to stick with Ultimate over the long haul, despite falling off of Brawl and 4 almost immediately. Hundreds of hours poured into Melee during the Gamecube era, but never competitively.

The compromise that was laid down for me to get mine was to have it for Christmas but after that I will have the switch and Smash Ultimate.

Of course I'm getting it but from my experiences with brawl and Smash 4 the people here don't like to follow the same rules set that my friends and I always played so I tend to play with them more than the people here

I'm fine with items on or off, but the way we played was everyone picked random and then the winner had to stay the same character while the others had to do random again to try to knock them off. It's great when everyone's the same skill level, but that varies too much on b8 and too many people straight up refuse to play some characters.

I'm hoping Ultimate's Smashdown mode will be able to capture something similar to this

And yeah I've never met a competitive person who isn't down to sometimes do some FFAs with items on and enjoy general chaos.

It's always the items only people that are like "EW GROSS 1v1 NO THANKS THAT'S NO FUN"
