I have a tv on my home. That's mostly for gaming, though I do watch stuff like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube on it. I use to watch cable, but not much anymore...

We haven't had cable for quite a while. Just recently got a Sling TV account for my dad, but I don't use it much. Watch a couple shows on Amazon Prime and that's about it.

Technically... ehh, it depends. While I don't watch stuff on tv, I'll pick up shows on NFI after the fact.

My only actual tvs are old CRTVs or whatever which I use for old consoles.

Kinda this, but I don't even use the tv for the most part... or maybe at all since I game on a monitor and I don't really use home consoles at this point.

The people who tend to spend the most time on YT seem to prefer original content (which isn't the kind of stuff you'd find on tv) so I'm kinda not getting the comparison. If it's a matter of people who don't spend time on one thing spend that time doing something else, that seems like kind of a duh.

This. I don't really get it. I don't hardly watch any TV shows though, it's nearly always movies for me.

I'm not working, but I'm always looking for work. I'm handicapped so it's hard to find good opportunities.

But in terms of entertainment... umm, not all people have to just consume entertainment in every free moment

Almost all I watch anymore is TV shows and youtube. Movies are few and far between.

I have a TV in my home, but I don't have cable or even an antenna for broadcast television. I primarily use it for gaming and streaming.

Although I guess nowadays Netflix and Youtube are considered "TV".

It does feel like that, tbh... When someone tells me about a new show, I have learned to stop asking what channel, and to say stuff like is it Netflix or Hulu. Every once in a while, they may say Amazon Prime. Or one of the other streaming services... Especially since a lot of the streaming services have their own original content now...

I haven't watched the TVs I've used since they lost cable service. I guess I could just stare at their blank screens, but I'd rather not.

I watch a lot of Youtube now, but that isn't on a literal TV, so I don't really count it.

I've known people like this, they think that having a TV detracts from "family time" and that when you remove it the family somehow becomes closer as a result.

What they fail to realize is that other stuff like phones and tablets are just going to replace TVs. Even something like a book is going to detract from "family time" and those have been around for all recorded history.

And tv is relatively unique in its ability to replace "family time" because the whole family could be watching something without interacting at all (which some might consider a kind of "family time" in itself), whereas phones, tablets, and books are individualized entertainment. Growing up, my folks were pretty adamant about eating at the dinner table and talking about peoples' days up until high school when they gave up on that and we'd just watch tv at dinner. I kinda went from knowing a great detail about my family's outside lives to knowing very little in a relatively short amount of time.

It seemed like that would be similar with my family, but it's not anymore. We talk a lot. Like when we go out to eat. And I text my mom all the time. When we had the same schedule, I'd call her when I was bored at work. We both worked the night shift. I text my siblings, grandma, and dad, as well. I think it's more about the effort you put into in. I'm halfway across the country and still know enough, I guess. But when I come home, we do go out and eat. And my mom does cook a Sunday Breakfast if I'm home on a Sunday morning.
