I never knew about this before and it's really bizarre

So one of my colleagues was describing how much she hated stuff with tiny holes in. She was trying to explain it to me so I got the phone out, googled it and said, "like this?" and she freaked the fuck out. It was that deep, primal, irrational kind of fear that like my mum has with spiders where she can't sleep if there's one in the house. So I apologised obviously - she was describing it more as a pet peeve than an outright fear

I don't want to post any links case someone gets TRIGGERED but you can easily google "Trypophobia" if you don't know what it is

I listed a bunch of examples and she was fine with most of them, which was weird. I think I even specifically mentioned strawberries.

Maybe it's like exact specific stuff like you'll see if you google it. "Normal" or "everyday" stuff such as strawberries, in her case at least, was fine

my girlfriend does actually. Strawberries are fine, lotus blossoms are fine, but honeycombs are bad. It's hard to see where the line is

Yeah the lines are weird for phobias

Like I have what I would consider a phobia of images of grey aliens. Obviously theres a line somewhere between, like, Invader Zim and the cover of Communion. I dont know exactly where it is though.

This is probably the only phobia I have. I can sometimes look at the pictures and be fine, but other times, I get completely triggered and uncomfortable, then I start to imagine the same holes on my body (especially my nipples for some reason) and feel even worse.

the way people make videos can make anything look scary

at the same time, this is a phobia that makes sense to me. you have no idea what is going to come out of a hole

on a bigger level, being afraid to go into a dark cave, or to stick your hand into a small hole (temple of doom style) is pretty rational

i guess you don't for sure know what's going to come out of really tiny holes, either. could be a bunch of deadly little critters

Probably. >_> I wouldn't say that I "get off" to them, but there is something oddly satisfying about them.

Those images get me pretty bad from what I remember. I may have experienced it directly once or twice too, just if something really looks like a bug infestation. I'm not universally scared of bugs, just stinging and parasitic ones.

I'll third this. Like, it's not something that I'm consciously aware of, but some of the images are discomforting. Looked at a few and noped the fuck out of there.

Yes, it makes me extremely uncomfortable to see things that trigger it for me. Very itchy too (even when I think about it sometimes, thanks topic)

It's a phobia I've only heard about because of the internet (it's a thing that I swear keeps getting brought up as a "heard of this weird phobia?" thing, it's nothing new)

It's interesting to me that a lot of people share this phobia but I not only don't have it, I'm unable to even comprehend why it's a thing, it like... doesn't make sense to me

not that I don't believe it's real or anything, although it weirdly almost seems "hip" on the internet to have trypophobia "ooh yeah I find weird holes creepy too"

No, but the pics of holes on the human body make me slightly uncomfortable
