Basically. I've come in from outside a couple times and have just walked to the breakfast area aand no one has stopped me. That's when I stay there. If I do the same thing when I wasn't, they mostly likely still wouldn't stop you. They don't know everyone who's staying there at any given time...

I tried that once, someone kept asking me for feet pics for some reason but I don't have any feet. Never got the bike.

My current job is running the front desk at 2 hotels. They're literally right beside each other and run by the same company, but still try to compete with the other for some reason.

Anyway, the one has a full continental breakfast, the other just has bagels and cereal. I've had many people come over from the one to have breakfast at the one with better breakfast. Lots of them will admit it, or I'll see them eating breakfast there then see them packing their belongings in their car at the other one.

The management was confused on how the food costs were rising at one and dropping at the other. It's because the other front desk guy was sending people over there specifically to lower their food cost. I'm supposed to send them back to the one they stayed at, but there's no way to know who is who.

It's all about how you do it. If you keep going to the same one for a few days, it's usually fine. But after a few weeks, they will start to notice. And ask if you're actually staying there. So, go for a week, then switch to a different hotel. Then do the same for a week or so. You don't go back to a hotel until like 3 months have passed. SO, a good 15 hotels on a rotation should be good. Especially if they change employees somewhat often. I would say try to get like a rotation of around 26 hotels, though. Then do 2 weeks in a row at each every year. Or a week at each twice every year...

That's weird. I have never been asked that at a hotel before. Not that I remember. And I live breakfast. Maybe this is something new. Like in the last few years or something. Or maybe a regional thing...

Ive never seen anybody actually check to see if you stay there at these breakfasts, and with so many revolving people they cant memorize you, they wouldnt know.

However when the continental breakfast is a constant game of GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY is it worth it?

It depends on the level/quality of the hotel. La Quinta etc hotels, generally the ones that cost about $100 a night or so.....don't check at all, but also only offer bagels/waffles/cereal/oatmeal orange/apple juice and coffee. It's a very minor breakfast and they monitor it not at all. In fact you can get to the room without even passing the front desk.

You could (and I think some of those homeless people do), eat there every day and nobody would even notice.

It was obvious (at the last hotel i was staying at) that a few of the people in there were homeless.

Better hotels with real buffets that include bacon/sausage/pancakes (freshly made), fruit etc (oh yeah the cheap ones have oranges/apples/bannanas as well) might at least check if you are there, but usually on the most expensive require a ticket etc.

Honestly unless I was homeless and unable to make money in any way myself, I wouldn't eat at one of those anyway...but yeah, if your REALLY trying to save money, you could.

Btw, many of the more (ok most) expensive hotels have free, unlimited shrimp cocktail (giant shrimps) etc. One of my uncles absolutely loves it when my grandfather visits his area cause he stays at some hotel in San Francisco that has that, and he pigs out on them lol.

If they ask him anything, it is probably just the room number and name on the room. Never asked him if they do or not.

Lol, yeah tons of hotels don't check. Many also have food at the desk (La Quinta's like I mentioned usually have hot/fresh cookies!!!).

I've been to many hotels. I rarely if ever eat at the breakfast buffet though. I don't like breakfast in general, and I'm a food snob. But I have seen a ton of em. Depends on the hotel, but yeah many don't check at all.

I've done work at a wide range of hotels from 1 to 4 stars and here's what I've seen.

The lower end hotels tend to have a breakfast area that isn't monitored, but they generally don't have a particularly great selection, maybe some bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs or pre-fab omelets, potatoes, waffles, various breads, oatmeal and cereal and fruit.

The middle level hotels will often have cook to order omelets and a bigger selection of foods, but they check room numbers or issue tickets at check-in.

The high-end hotels usually don't offer a free breakfast, you've got to pay for it.
