No way is a title like Doki Doki is going to have lasting contest strength.

You wouldn't let this sit. This transgression of the Contest spirit has gone long enough! So, like any Link-fearing man would do, you call out the violator: "Hey, you there." You give the passer-by a mean glare. The passer-by gazes at you, although you can't tell if it's your face or the crack of your rifle. Either way, you decry her there and then: "You should know that your kind aren't welcome here."

"I'm sorry, sir?" You can't deny: she has your attention. For the least, she's a far cry from the guys who made buttfurious a rallying cry. With a look at your gun, you can tell she's nervous, but she musters just enough confidence to ask, "Did I do something wrong?"

DDLC is severely overrated, both in quality and rally potential

there is a brilliant 15 minute segment in the middle when the author injects a surprisingly heartfelt monologue on depression, but you have to slog through too much to get there and everything afterwards is pretty much rote in a post undertale/homestuck world

i also doubt that DDLC's fanbase is anywhere close to undertale's in size due to the narrow, ecchi-focused nature of the game

I disagree in part. The game is cool in a lot of ways, but it seems designed in a way that attracts toxic players and causes the fanbase to be bad by design.

Matches are very long (40 min to over 1 hour) and mistakes made by players in the first 10 minutes basically decide the outcome of the game, which turns the match into a pointless slog if one player makes a big mistake. It is an intentional snowball effect where one player being bad will make the opponent level up too much, and become invincible.

And the game is designed so that the winning play is to spend at least half of it doing very boring tasks, like farming minions. This creates a huge chasm between casual and competitive players, since people who go in there just to do obvious fun things will punish their teammates with a very slow defeat. So players are naturally compelled to act like dicks to teammates who don't cooperate.

Then you have the fact the design basically forces players to divide into roles, and the fact newbie matches have a first-come-first-get system to picking roles, which induces players to start fighting with teammates before the game even starts.

Then there is the fact the game is engineered so it feels like a league progression (hence the name), in which after you reach the maximum player level, the next step is to join leagues. There is no way to just play games with skilled people that don't involve competing for league positions.

So everything is designed to attract toxic players, and stimulate those players to bully the casuals out. When Riot started doing measures to ban toxic players more often, there was a lot of uproar in public forums, because the toxic mentality is the default one in the LoL community.

Dota's cool, every hero can work in every role/lane, and comebacks are super possible even when your team has a bad first 10 minutes.

To clarify- if Monika wins a round it will be because of a rally, sure. But the game is legitimately very popular; steamspy estimates about 4 million people have tried the game, and 96% of those who left reviews gave it a thumbs up. Which is pretty well unheard of for a free game with no barrier to entry. (Some free VR games go over 95% but you're not allowed to rate them unless you own a headset, so you only have to please a limited userbase.)
