I was in the 5th grade, on my way to school. My mom told me just before I walked out the door.

When I got to school, we watched the news for a while. I can't really remember the rest of the day.

Where were you, and what were you doing?

Sleeping. I was pretty annoyed that I got woke up for that shit too. There wasn't any good reason to interrupt my sleep for something that was going to be on every channel, all day.

Laying in bed just woke up

I lived on the west coast so it was early still

And had graduated high school

My mom came in my room and woke me up. Said something was happening on the news that maybe I might want to witness

I get up and go up stairs and the tv is on and I saw as burning tower. I think both planes had hit but I saw at least one tower fall as it happened

I was home getting ready for school. My mom walked into the kitchen and when we asked what was wrong she just said that we were going to war.

On the way to school we heard that the pentagon was bombed and I was terrified thinking that the entire country was under siege and about to be invaded. Something I think some younger people arent aware of is the period of time after the attacks where we did not know who did it. There was a tremendous amount of fear and speculation

I was in kindergarten at the time and honestly don't remember it (I remember the first anniversary of it clearly though).

Part of that though is my mother tried to hide it from me as my father was a commercial pilot and was flying at the time, she was worried I would think he was in one of the planes that crashed.

I walked into the snack shop at my university, and noticed pretty much everyone in the room circled around the TV. There was an awkward silence. More and more people walked in, and stared at the screen, but nobody said a word. When the towers came crashing down, it was horrifying.

Then, years later, I thought about the fact that many places in the Middle East have buildings crumble on a weekly, or even daily basis. Constant warfare right on their doorsteps. I then feel guilty about how petty people in the USA get with their political pissing contests. I mean, we've got it pretty good here. I can count on one hand how many buildings in my entire nation have crumbled due to acts of terrorist violence within my lifetime. Many people mourn on Sept 11th. To me, it reminds me of just how much I have to be thankful for.

I was off from work that day - I didn't know what went on until late morning (don't watch much TV). I was driving my dad's truck because my mom was using my car to get to work - her vehicle needed to go in the shop for some repairs.

I turned on the radio, hoping to hear "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker, but instead the radio station had some special report on, saying something about planes hitting the Twin Towers and the towers collapsing. I saw some footage of it later - even to this day, I can't bear to watch the towers going down unless I'd rather start sobbing like Herbert Morrison did in his eyewitness account when the Hindenburg went down in flames.

Pretty much the same here. When I went out to a bar that evening and heard the stupid people talking about blowing up gas stations I was slightly concerned.

At work over in the Washington Navy Yard. Had finished an early-morning VTC when the tech crew rushed in to switch the monitors to the news. When I asked what was going on, they said that planes (plural) had just hit the World Trade Center. (This was just before the hit on the Pentagon, just a few miles away.)

School, they told us and I didnt know what the World Trade Center was nor did I really care at the time being 10 or so. I realized it was a pretty big deal when I got home and like 95% of the channels other than the strictly kids channels were covering it.

Sitting with my sister and my best friend at home. It was just after 4pm when we normally would have been watching Pokemon.

So I start complaining that I wanna watch Pokemon and dont wanna watch the news, little did I know this was the channel Pokemon was supposed to be shown on and theyd interrupted the show with breaking news of the twin towers.

Its only after that it started sinking in what had just happened

I don't really have strong memories of it. I was in middle school that day. Came home. Turned on the TV and there it was. I'd become desensitized by seeing middle eastern wars on the TV all the time, so I didn't think much of violence. We went out to eat and it was on the TV at the restaurant too. My parents were chatting about it with the waitress, but it took me a while to grasp the magnitude of what happened.
