I love how "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is used to describe people who openly hate a guy who has done everything possible to earn scorn, and NOT the people who desperately suck his cock because they're convinced he's the second-coming of Christ.

Probably because the term has its roots from "Bush Derangement Syndrome" (a term coined by a conservative columnist) and is widely used by several conservative columnists today, as well as by a couple of republican senators (Ted Cruz to try and criticize the media for covering Stormy Daniels more than the freeing of citizens from North Korea. Rand Paul for criticizing the focus on Russia rather than other countries interference in the US election).

The funny thing is, "Bush Derangement Syndrome" might have actually made sense early in Bush's presidency (pre 9/11). I remember people on the left getting excited when Bush's 20-year-old daughter was caught showing fake ID to get beer she would need to be 21 to buy (oooh...wow, what a horrible crime *eyeroll*. Was all over the news, in May/June of 2001). The term wasn't ACTUALLY used back then though. The term was first used in 2003, after Bush had started two wars giving very real and legitimate reasons to criticize the man.

But as to why it's the right and not the left using these terms? I dunno, like, I think the left as a whole is too polite to call people "deragned". At least, on an organized structural level. Maybe Jaykl will directly call someone on this board deranged, but you won't get that from multiple senators and multiple columnists talking about the news media.

I'm not sure how much it's an effective tool anyway. Like...would it help anything if the left called all climate change deniers "deranged"? Would that actually change anyone's mind?

No, but it's not intended to change anyone's mind. It helps the right for the left to persist in their "derangement." Talking about it gives great pleasure to people who use the term, with little to no risk that the left will learn anything from it or change their actions in a way that would help them win the next election. Because, why would you listen to someone who calls you "deranged?"

It's lmfao because his justification for disrespecting the anthem to the flag is free speech. Yet, it is okay to silence making a small prayer to a god you believe in while scoring a TD because he believes it is not real?

How anyone in the world can argue free speech while arguing it is okay to attack someone for saying a prayer to a god they believe in is absolutely lunacy.

And, yes, I am fully aware if it wasn't Christianity but a minority God that the direct opposite stance would be made by those same people also.

Like, I used to think Jakyl was cool and fun to discuss things with but he over the last year has gone completely off the deep end. I take everything back. He is basically a peaf 2.0 at this point.

Yes. In America, Muslims are a minority. And they pray to Allah.

But, this is a deflection from the pointing out of hypocrisy of what free speech is and how it is okay to attack someone for using it while not disrespecting the flag while also arguing it okay to to disrespect the flag for free speech for reasons your party agrees with.

For what it's worth I am just as upset by the idea of people being pressured not to kneel in prayer as I am by the idea of people being pressured not to kneel in protest of social injustice.

I expect this is a majority opinion among people who are upset by the latter, at least. This is of course only based on my limited observations.

I feel like the whole "liberals made fun of Tim Tebow for praying" thing was yet another of those instances where conservatives love pretending they're being persecuted for their beliefs, but in reality it wasn't a big deal. I mean, people praise God and pray in football celebrations all the time, so this seems like one of those convenient "oh so it's NOT okay to criticize those hateful, un-American assholes for disrespecting our flag when poor, sweet, good-hearted Tim Tebow was laughed at for kneeling in respect to our Lord and Savior".

I was thinking of saying this also, for the record.

I don't follow football admittedly, but this topic is honestly the first time in my life I've ever even heard about this. And on top of that an admittedly fast Google search didn't produce any evidence of this ever being a source of outrage among people.

I'll admit that some liberals made fun of Tebow (which I don't consider a great look) but there's a big difference: I never heard anyone suggest that Tebow be banned from kneeling in prayer. If Trump and his toadies kept it to "we will express our disapproval at NFL players kneeling, but we acknowledge their right to do so" I'd respect that, too, but they go too far when they support fines, firing, or otherwise enforcing players stand during the anthem.

If anything, the only reason Tim Tebow became a big deal at all, from what I gathered at the time, was that his prayer celebrations were so numerous and over-the-top in comparison to his mediocrity as a football player than it was comical.

They instituted a rule to no longer allow it I believe and penalize it 15 yards. And it ironically ended up being enforced for the first time on a Muslim player (which alrdy shows the hypocrisy) and they backtracked hard when they were called out for penalizing him for making a prayer to Allah.

And there was talk if Tebow was blackballed from the league (which ends up just like Kaepnerick he just sucked ass).

I'd think it's more likely that having seen the consequences of people losing their jobs/friends/etc. over being ID'd in rallies like that along with the fact that it was a given that they'd be massively outnumbered by counter-protestors were the reason why the second rally was a complete bust.

Indeed.

I worked my ass off from Hillary Clinton in 2008. And I ultimately didn't actually vote for President in 2008 because I couldn't stomach the idea of Sarah Palin in the White House but I hesitated for a very very long time in the voting booth because I did very much want McCain as President.

I did. In 2012.

At the time I felt his plan for healthcare lacked the balls necessary to be good policy because it relied on a public option instead of simply subsidizing healthcare as Hillary had planned. I figured better to have 4 more years of not fixing the problem than having Obama fix it incorrectly. I voted for democrats at every other level just not for President though.

I also thought he was all fluff with no ability to actually effectively administrate. He proved me wrong on that front and by the time 2012 rolled around repealing ACA would have caused more chaos than it would have solved and he in general proved to be centrist as opposed to liberal.
