More fuel to the fire. I feel for her, but firing back gets you that and so much more in return from that sort of crowd. It isn't fair, but learning to ignore those types goes a long way in making your life better. Not just bigoted people, but anyone who is going to judge you harshly for how you live. Be you. Be happy being you. When you let the hateful words and actions affect you, you stop being yourself and that's not good.

Care to actually dispute something instead of clutching your pearls in general protest? Tran is absolutely the one with all the power in that relationship. She also absolutely lucked into the role she got, considering she had no real previous acting creds (or possibly no creds at all?) and very limited ability. She was about to give up on acting when she landed a role in one o the biggest movie franchises that, in theory, could generate serious money for the rest of her life.

No, but baseless violence against white people happens in areas where they're minorities. I would argue that men typically have it better socially, but just as a result of angry shitty men being worse than angry shitty women. But to act like white people never face prejudice or unjust behavior based on their skin is ignorance in the truest sense of the word.

To be fair, she probably did get some nasty racist tweets regarding her relationship with Fin. If you're a celebrity on Twitter, that's going to happen.

I don't agree with anyone making racist remarks but her character was awful. Added nothing to the story, and I felt like they tried too hard to force her to be a new character that we should embrace. It's Star Wars though, there's a high standard. People want fun and memorable characters, and she was neither, yet we wasted a lot of time with her. And I don't care to see any more of her in the next one. She wasn't compelling in the least

She's been in a bunch of short films and television roles. This may have been her first big acting gig, but she didn't have, as you said, very limited ability or previous acting credentials.

terrible character in a terrible movie, didn't notice anything special about her acting but it wasn't bad either. maybe I'm missing the context but it seems like she is quite a bit too privileged to complain about this kind of thing. hollywood may be guilty of everything she says but they still writing her paychecks though

tbh, it's basically the same thing with Sony's Ghostbusters reboot -- the company was getting backlash for it so they highlighted the bottom basement trolls and pretended that was where the majority of the sentiment was coming from. In reality, her race has little to do with people hating her but, because she has power and privilege, she can frame the narrative however she wants.

I'd say her acting was bad, but I suspect it had less to do with her ability as an actress, and more a combination of the piss-poor script and weak direction.

ie, the same reason why pretty much every actor in the prequels other than Ewan McGregor came across wooden as fuck and barely giving a shit (or acting ridiculously over the top like Ian McDiarmid), in spite of some of them being very talented actors outside of the franchise.

But really, the fact that her entire presence in the movie was absolutely superfluous and led to multiple stupid moments and pointless scenes definitely didn't endear her to anyone. She was hardly the worst performance in the film, but she basically became the focal point for all of the disappointment towards other aspects because she was part of a lot of it.
