Well, the one other way to win me over quickly is to have good music/soundtrack. But at the same time I'm also super picky with what music I like.

But some things have won me over with music for sure. Umineko is one where its OST pulled me in (the VN) and I ended up really loving the whole thing, along with the music <3

So I'd say having cute or cool animal characters is the easiest way to win me over, music is also another way.

And then you have Death Note which doesn't really have either of those things and I still thought that was really cool! At least the first half =p

You should give Future Boy Conan a chance if you like Miyazaki, though, even though the opening and closing songs are admittedly nothing spectacular.

The visuals and animation in general is fairly good and I like the water effects used. I like the effect of a character running in the background with memories kind of flashing by. A lot of animes use this effect and it looks quite nice here. Where this opening (and many others) fails for me is that I really just don't care for the song at all. I don't get any energy or excitement from the vocals and it's hard to really feel anything for any of the characters when the song isn't getting you into it. I think a problem that a LOT of animes have in these opening songs is that the vocals are constantly repeating one high note over and over and it just completely ruins everything for me. When you are singing one high note over and over, it just loses meaning and sucks the energy out of everything. I've been noticing this trend quite a bit while going through these openings and endings and every time that this situation comes up, it is just kind of painful to watch and listen to.

The animation style of this ending saves this ending from being lower for me. I think it's a unique fun style that is refreshing to see. Unfortunately, I don't like the song really that much at all and the video itself is honestly very just whatever to me. Just a few generic anime girls doing anime girl things. I don't have any positive things to say about it other than the style of animation used so I'll just keep it at that.

The animation is nice, crisp and solid all the way through. Very well made. Though through my eyes all I see is generic anime girl rinse and repeat 4 times. The song is nice and while I don't love it in any way, I don't dislike it at all. Also I saw a cute kitty! That was a nice breath of fresh air for like half a second. Anyways, pretty basic stuff here for me. Animation quality is good but the content is absolutely not up my alley and the song is fairly average, maybe slightly above.

This one makes me a bit sad to rank this low because I have fairly fond memories of Inuyasha as a whole but this ending is not one of them. I really quite love the first ending used for this anime and even the opening is a nostalgic classic. This song/video just completely focuses on Kagome and Inuyasha and almost in a boring way. The song is not doing the video any favors as it's honestly pretty boring as well, almost borderline irritating to me. Don't take this score as an indication for my opinion on the anime because from what I've seen of it, I do quite enjoy Inuyasha.

I would like the After Story OP so much more if it weren't for that talking/chanting part or whatever it is that starts at 1:10. I like most of the song a lot but god do I hate that part. Drops the OP an entire tier at least for me.

Also I just wanna say that some of these writeups have made me really curious what you would think of the OP to The World God Only Knows. And...looking at the last topic it looks like somebody actually did nominate it, so uh now I'm looking forward to that writeup lol

So there's an anime about baseball huh? I can't say I'm surprised and honestly the OP is probably exactly what I expected out of it. Fairly alright song but I can't say I really care for it that much. I also can't help but kind of laugh at the one guy that has a X scar on his face. Aren't characters with scars and whatnot supposed to be in animes where something like that would be realistic? How did he get that scar...? Sliding into 2nd base? LOL

Either way, the opening has a lot of energy and pretty great quality which I can appreciate and the song isn't bad by any means but I can definitely say I have 0 interest in ever watching it.

The song and video fit incredibly well and I have to give the video itself props because it actually looks pretty damn cool. I love the effects used to make the scenes pop out more and I enjoy the energy from the opening. That's probably where I'll be done with my praise though as even though the song is great for the opening itself and I honestly feel it fits the characters perfectly... it's really not for me. Not much kind of music in the slightest and if I didn't respect the quality of the opening so much, this would probably be 20 points lower. Also the texture on the characters hands kinds of bothers me. The art style in general for the anime isn't my kind of thing so mixing that along with the music that doesn't jive with me makes this hard to place anywhere that high.

Oooof... I am a pretty big fan of One Piece but I am NOT a fan of this ending. The song is pretty irritating and the video leaves much to be desired. I wouldn't be lying if I said Chopperman appearing to fly around the screen didn't bump its score a good 10-20 points. This one is definitely a fairly big miss for me and it makes me sad because there's a TON of great One Piece endings. I haven't checked but this might be my least favorite out of all of them?

Breaking the common trend is Code Geass where the song is far better than the video. I'm all for showing off your main characters but you really gotta do more than that. I think like 90% of the video is just showing off still images of the main characters and when you have such a high energy song like that, it just feels like a complete waste to have the video be so dull. The song wasn't amazing or anything, but it was still pretty alright and got me pumped up... for nothing.

Adventure World da bes. I love that song and I love Robin consoling Chopper at the end. The fan art is a lovely touch as well.

I love it so much (obviously).

I especially like the part at 0:55 and how the more tense first and second parts of the song break into this more peaceful and harmonized melody. The image it evokes in my head is something akin to seeing a lone ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds after an entire night of storms, or something. (I'm sorry I'm not a poet.) I could legitimately talk about why I think this sort of melodic progression also ties in to the themes of the show itself, but I don't actually want to exert the effort to do that.

I will say however that that is a running theme with a lot of my favorites OP's or ED's--that they end up influencing the way I end up interpreting the show. (moreso with OP's than ED's it turns out, but whatever)

Also I said this before when I nominated but I really do love the visuals here. Hot take: I still take this ED has near-concrete evidence that the decision to animate the show itself using CGI was a poor one, even if the CGI looks good as well.

To be fair (and I cited the terrible visuals in my original nominations) but that was an OP that they literally only used for two episodes at the end of season 1, so I mean.... of course it was thrown together/they weren't going to put time and effort into a two-ep OP.

Also, I put together the nominations in a spreadsheet (because why not overanalyze a fun ranking contest) and we've got 4 people who nominated both an OP and ED who haven't had one come up yet

Absolutely hate it when no effort is put into making a 90 second animation. Even more wasted potential if the song is awesome.

The song all the way through is very solid and quite nice to listen to. Good beat and something I wouldn't mind listening to more than once. The video though... yikes. This is basically everything I hate about anime. Just a bunch of generic school girls doing school things but then oh my they have powers sort of? Just with this opening, it probably moved itself down to animes I'll never ever want to watch. Song is good though!

Just by watching the opening video I can tell this would be an anime that I have 0 interest in but the song itself is actually fairly good. It's got a nice Eurobeat feel to it that I enjoy but the part at 36 seconds really brings it down for me. Thankfully this part only lasts like 10 seconds and goes back to being a fun song right after, but that part still hurts it for me. Overall fairly decent.

Maybe there's some level of importance of the fireworks but I don't understand it at least at face level!

This is actually pretty much how I feel about this ED also. Last time I rewatched the show I think most of the time I watched the first 15 seconds of the ED and then just stopped the episode.

Glad both my OP and ED made it into the top 10. I kinda ended up putting more effort into picking than I tend to with anime song ranking topics (I guess because of the "pick your absolute favourite" kind of thing) so like, I was worried for once.
