This probably won't make sense to anyone outside of that topic, but I got warned before I could post these. I ate two Teriyaki Bento Boxes this week to see what you get and see the value vs crap n the box's crap bowls.

I ate at Sarku and a local place

(I ate a little of each before the pic)

Sarku Japan
~9 bucks

You get:
4 California Rolls
3 Dumplings
Salad
Teriyaki Chicken on White Rice

Local Sushi Place
~12 bucks (after tip like ~15-16 bucks)

You get:
4 California Rolls
Box of Veggie and Shrimp Tempura
Cup of Miso Soup
Salad
Teriyaki Chicken
White Rice

Jack 'N the Box (not my pic, never tried it)
~6 bucks

A bowl of Teriyaki Chicken, White Rice and Veggies

It's definitely cheaper, but it just doesn't seem like a good value imo.
And Yoshinoya and Flamebroiler both make a carbon copy of the Jack N the Box Teriyaki bowl

your local sushi place, is that calamari and tempura prawn in the smaller box on the left?

It's shrimp tempura, onion, potato, zuchini and maybe something else. I only ate the onion and gave the rest to someone else who loves Tempura

I think every time I eat a bento box from now on, I'll get it from a different place and try to find the best on in the city >_>

ahhhh gotcha. that's actually not too bad price wise. i mean you'd struggle to get all of that in the UK for 12/$15

i'm not a fan of the salad at sarku japan, lettuce is one of my least favourite vegetables. but the gyoza is winning me over

I literally throw away this salad shit every time >_>.
I feel like side salads in variety meals are never good.

It all tastes like grilled chicken with sauce over it to me

the salad at your sushi place looks better, at least it's not filled with lettuce. salad leafs are a lot better

it is, but it's about the quality of meat and what you get with it.

I normally just get rolls from sushi places, but I thought I would check out how their bento boxes measure up in terms of extras and meat/ingredient quality

I have no idea what is "authentic" japanese, but I'd imagine California Rolls and the other items aren't truly authentic either.

There's a Japanese salad I actually like that comes with every Benihana dish

and it's basically just lettuce and the other standard shit, but it's served with some kind of Ginger dressing.
It's good, but only because the quality of veggies that they use is good.

Benihanna's is like 20-30 bucks per person though

Thanks finally mentioned in topic with out being insulted (lol).

I bypassed both Jake in the Box and the Japanese places around here. And just went back to eating Chick-Fil-A and Grocery Store chicken wings (publix). But after seeing this topic, I think I might try to do some Teriyaki Chicken at home.Those pictures and your detailed reporting are making very hungry.

i want it too, but they're not going to build one in town.
wendy's is supposedly being built in the next town over. i'll accept that for sure since i can visit twice a month.

as far as comments on bento. either the jack in the box or the 12 dollar bento deal is the greater value.
3 dollars more gets the soup and tempura.
