I wear contacts, and I'm kind of traumatized from my mom's experience. Granted she got it done in the late 90s when it was new tech. But they botched it, she still couldn't see, but then her lenses were so screwed she couldn't wear contacts anymore. She had to have two corrective surgeries after the fact which luckily they comped for her

No, I like my glasses.

I recently (two weeks ago) had to temporarily make the switch to contacts and I cannot wait to go back to glasses.

It wouldn't help me. Only thing that could do that would be either a retina transplant, retinal regeneration, or cybernetic implants. Basically, technology that's beyond expensive or is currently nonexistant or still in the infancy stage.

Yeah, I've read a description of the procedure. I know a few people who've had it done (to be fair, they thought it was fine) and described it to me, and just...no. Never. The whole cutting part squicks me the hell out. I'll keep my glasses...

Not only that, but you can't close your eyes, so you are going to literally see the knife cutting your eye.

Already had it done 5 years ago. The procedure was a breeze. Honestly you don't see much while it is happening. They don't really use a knife. The laser makes several small bubble like spots. That way when it is placed back, it kind of seals itself for a quick heal. I could see perfectly within an hour or two of the procedure being finished.

No surgeries or lasers or whatever.
I refuse to do that mostly because I'm too lazy to make that effort.
And I also refuse to wear contacts because with my shitty memory I would most likely forget I even wore them and then I would have to go to the hospital to get them unstuck.

So yeah glasses are fine for me and besides, some people look good in glasses : )

On the fence, I like my glasses, especially since I chose a new pair/frame earlier this year. But, I don't always wear them and tend to leave them behind as I don't need to rely on them. Would be nice to not need them at all. Just have had plenty of surgeries in the past, and with this one purely being optional. I'm happy not feeling like I need it any time soon.

I considered it, but the technology was a bit less advanced/trustworthy 20 years ago, and it never really seemed like the potential hassles (including having someone go there with me and shepherd me home, which would have been annoying because there wasn't a LASIK place near enough to me, so it would have involved a fair amount of travel) were surmountable for the benefits.

Now I'm pretty much too old, because LASIK isn't a permanent solution, and they discourage it for older patients.

I also considered contacts, but I was never able to use them because I've always had really sensitive eyes, so I've basically just worn glasses since I was 11 years old, and will continue to do so until I'm dead. And I'm pretty much legally blind without them, so I wear them all the time while I'm awake.

Im about passing mid twenties but my short sightedness still hasnt settled. They say nowadays we are always looking at a phone or computers so it may never settle compared to 20 years ago. Or maybe its just me.

The only inconvenience it that I cant do water sports. And I dont do combat sports or play rugby.

So im ok with contact lenses for now. I'll wait till I eventually develop cataracts when im old then I'll get it done. The procedures are more or less the same.

I used to think it was something I'd do, but after hearing about the process and then watching a video of it and seeing that they do indeed (basically) slice your eye open, AND learning that the results are not permanent and can be lost over time, I soured on it.

Nope. I did monovision contacts for a while, one eye for distant vision, one eye for near, but it's not legal to pilot a plane that way, so for flying, bifocal glasses are the best solution. I could do distant vision contacts both eyes, plus reading glasses, but that's more cumbersome than bifocals. Lasix would remove any options.

I've considered it, but my glasses are kind of just part of me. I've pretty much always just looked better with glasses since I got them in, I think, third grade. They looked so natural on me, a lot of my classmates didn't even realize that I got them.

I did it ages and ago and don't look back. I was in my early 20s. Lasik might be expensive but it is less expensive than two decades worth of glasses.

Also, to the person saying glasses are less hassle than no glasses, you're kidding yourself.

For the record though, they don't use a knife anymore. They put you on a table, use a little tool to hold your eye open. Then press a lens on your eye. Your vision goes dark for a few seconds while a laser cuts the flap. They rotate you to another laser and that one corrects your eye. They use a small brush to make sure the flap is down and your eyes are lubricated and you are on your way. I could see within 5 minutes of the surgery and the entire process took less than 10 minutes. 4k for both eyes and they do life time adjustments for no additional cost.

Isnt LASEK always better than LASIK though? I heard that instead of cutting a flap, LASEK just alters the surface of your eye. And because theres no flap at all, you can still do combat sports like boxing, cliff dive and play rugby. But i think LASEK is much more expensive.

It has longer and more complicated healing and for most people the advantages won't outweigh the disadvantaged compared to Lasik. Although if you have to go the prk route lasek is almost always better.
