Redskin is an offensive term for Native Americans. It's a really poor analogy he's got going there. Could have at least gone with "White Skins" which still is not offensive but at least sounds like a crappier way to describe a group of people.

This train of thought is offensive to me.

Intent is all that matters. A doctor in M*A*S*H calling black people negros in respect to black people often having more issues with a blood-borne affliction isn't offensive as it was just referencing the guys neutrally over an issue that effects them.

Calling white people Caucasians in a lazy attempt to degrade white people is offensive because that was the intent.

How can you not intend to have a bias? You choose what you favour. Plenty of people don't believe they're racist when they are, but they are people who make bs definitions of racism like "discrimination+power".

Someone who claims that they aren't racist but their race am best still intended to express that their race is superior (which is racist), they just think they have a magic exception when they don't.

It really doesn't matter in this case since as I already pointed out Irish isn't a race. The most you can argue against is stereotypes like the name Fighting Irish.

I got in an argument with a friend yesterday about the Redskins name.

90% of Natives don't care. The outrage about this is almost exclusively from white people. If the people who the name supposedly offends are overwhelmingly not offended, why bother changing it.
